Scrappy New Year!!! We give you week nine of the Sonics Bruising League.

A little love tap.
A little love tap.
USA TODAY Sports

Sing along if you know the words.

Should Old Begrudgings be forgot,
and never fought upon;
The flames of hate extinguished,
and fully past and gone:
Is thy cold Heart now grown so warm,
that vengeful heart of thine;
That thou canst never once reflect
On Old long syne.

The league offices of the Sonics Bruising League wish all of you a very Scrappy New Year! May you continue to play the game the way we all know and love. May you resolve to play harder, nastier, and scrappier than you have before.

As for the results of this last week, the matchup we had all been waiting for certainly did not disappoint. The Frozen Envelope squared off against Team Catdawg. They both came into the week with eight victories and no losses. They fought it out all week. They bruised each other. They bloodied each other. It was close throughout the contest. But it was the Frozen Ones who pulled away over the weekend to eek out a tough victory.

For the rest of the contests, bandages and ice packs abounded.

BAD BOY BONUSES

Matt Barnes Fined

He was just enjoying the scenery. He didn't want to leave. Unfortunately, he'd just been ejected from the game and the NBA took offense at that. Team Catdawg was the beneficiary with 15 bonus points. Here is the league statement:

NEW YORK, Dec. 23, 2013 - Los Angeles Clippers forward Matt Barnes has been fined $25,000 for failing to leave the court in a timely manner upon his ejection, it was announced today by Rod Thorn, President, Basketball Operations.

The incident, which was called a Flagrant Foul 2 on the floor and downgraded to a Flagrant Foul 1 upon league office review, occurred with 56.8 remaining in the third quarter of the Clippers' 120-116 OT victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday Dec. 22, at Staples Center.

Paul Pierce Fined

Excessive and unnecessary contact? Could be interpreted so many ways. Whatever the interpretation, Da Double Techs earned a 15-point bump. The NBA states the following:

NEW YORK, Dec. 24, 2013 - Brooklyn Nets forward Paul Pierce has been fined $15,000 for making excessive and unnecessary contact with George Hill of the Indiana Pacers, it was announced today by Rod Thorn, President, Basketball Operations.

The incident, which was called a Flagrant Foul 2, occurred with 4:22 remaining in the third quarter of the Nets' 103-86 loss the Pacers on Monday Dec. 23, at Barclays Center.

Draymond Green Fined

Green also didn't want to leave and it cost him. It benefited the Baltimore Bullets 15 points. Here is the league statement:

NEW YORK, Dec. 26, 2013 - Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has been fined $15,000 for failing to leave the court in a timely manner upon his ejection, it was announced today by Rod Thorn, President, Basketball Operations.

The incident occurred with 0:01 remaining in the third quarter of the Warriors' 105-103 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, Dec. 25, at Oracle Arena.

Zach Randolph Fined

"But sirs. I beg to differ with some of the calls made this evening," said Randolph. "Write us a twenty-five thousand dollar check," said the NBA. Primetime Sheed's gets the 15-point bonus. Here is the league statement:

NEW YORK, Dec. 27, 2013 - Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph has been fined $25,000 for public criticism of officiating, it was announced today by Rod Thorn, President, Basketball Operations.

Randolph made his comments following the Grizzlies' 100-92 loss to the Houston Rockets on Thursday, Dec. 26, at Toyota Center.
