This morning it was announced that Chris Hansen and his SonicsArena group have teamed up with the WNBA's Seattle Storm as well as Jamal Crawford's Seattle Pro-Am for a Seattle basketball double-header on July 10th at KeyArena.

Hansen's group purchased 2,000 tickets to that evening's Storm game against the Phoenix Mercury, which also includes admission to the Pro-Am later that night, and will be giving them out for free (plus a $1 ticket fee) to longtime supporters of the arena. They sent out emails this morning with instructions on how to get the tickets. If you didn't get the email, you can still purchase tickets at this link. One ticket covers the admission price of both events.

"The Storm has kept professional basketball alive in Seattle, and the Seattle Arena Group is very excited to partner with them to bring the Seattle Pro-Am to KeyArena," said Hansen. "Our group has purchased 2,000 tickets to this event to support the Storm’s vision to provide Seattle Basketball fans with this event."

"To open up the Seattle Pro-Am league at KeyArena offers us an incredible platform to give back to the Seattle basketball fans who have supported the Storm, the Sonics and the Seattle Pro-Am over the years," said Storm President & GM Alisha Valavanis. "The night promises to deliver top-caliber basketball and exciting entertainment to Seattle basketball fans."

Jamal Crawford appeared on Q13's Q It Up Sports with Aaron Levine last night and announced the first group of NBA players that will be participating in the Pro-Am. They are;

  • Jamal Crawford
  • Isaiah Thomas
  • Nate Robinson
  • Terrence Williams
  • Spencer Hawes
  • Kelly Olynyk

and appearing, but not playing;

  • Tony Wroten
  • Brandon Roy
More players will be announced between and now and July 10. Past Pro-Ams have featured appearances by Slam Dunk Champion Zach LaVine, Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving, Los Angeles Clippers "Lob City" duo Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, and former Sonic Kevin Durant.

It should be a fun time and great showcase for Seattle basketball. It's also great to see SonicsArena getting involved not only in the community, but in NBA-sanctioned events. I encourage anyone who can attend to do so. Proceeds go to the Jamal Crawford Foundation, whose goal is to assist inner-city children with youth and community development, improvement, educational and related activities.
