After a long hiatus, the Seattle Sin Bin podcast returns.
So much has happened since our previous episode last fall. I won’t even attempt to recount it here. Since everything has gotten all kinds of crazy of late, we decided that a special episode is in order. There will likely be more in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
For this episode, Seattle Times reporter Geoff Baker joins us to talk about all the goings on, and all that might unfold in the near future. We recognize that Geoff has had a ... well ... strained relationship at times with our community. But he has always been a friend to this show and we are glad to have him back.
Comments
Dang.
Sorry for the echo folks.

Only important people have echoes!
You’re a proper Lou Gehrig

Props to Geoff
He is my frenemy of the bunch because no matter how much he degrades us, says controversial stuff and gets into it with us he still wants to come on and face the heat.
This is what sports, politics and journalism are all about. A bunch of people who are jerks to each other but then have to talk it all out as part of the job.
By Brian Robinson on 06.06.17 8:41pm
Hmm, that's NOT what journalism is about.
But it does describe what we have today in place of it.
But totally true for sports and politics.
By cortone on 06.06.17 8:58pm
That's not what sports should be about either
Politics, of course, has always been war by other means.
By TheTrialist on 06.06.17 9:54pm
If you think message boards get snarky with each other
Try the press box.
I think Geoff is 100% completely and totally wrong, not to mention unprofessional when he publicly degrades readers, customers and "civilians". He is also just incredibly sensitive to lump the actions of a few knuckleheads and label an entire fan base. All that said his attitude would not stand out much if he could just manage to keep those crappy comments away from the general public. People in the media and politics treat each other like that all the time.
It’s interesting that he still is willing to come here though. I’ll give him credit for that.
By Brian Robinson on 06.06.17 10:10pm
That's what annoys me most
Baker, city council, etc lumped an entire fan base into the "anti women group" completely changing the narrative of not having to defend their no vote and rather pumping the all sports fans degrade women talking points.
Elected officials get backlash all the time for their voting record, public hearings on homelessness, low income housing, soda taxes, all sorts of sensative city items get heated and citizens speak their minds. You’re telling me a select few sports fans were the first to ever leave inappropriate emails and voice mails on council people work phones and emails?
I’ll never be convinced otherwise than it was a calculated move to shift the talking points away from a street vacation vote that the people who voted no on clearly did not understand the nuisances of the deal and shifting to blaming the male shovinist sports fans. It was disgraceful and Baker and the city continue to bring this up like it was the first time a minority of citizens wronged them.
God this just opened up a fresh wound…..
By dawgfan4life on 06.06.17 10:37pm
Must not go into politics, must not go into politics.....
But…yeah. This was one of the scummier things Baker’s done, intentionally feeding into all that.
By Drunk Viking on 06.07.17 9:08am
I'll credit Baker, I guess, for 'facing the heat' of coming on the podcast
But I don’t respect him as a journalist, and no longer care what he has to say.
By seafan4good on 06.07.17 8:09am
Baker is like the slow driver who is getting a thrill from creating rage in others
This is an intravenous feed for him. He wouldn’t miss it for the world. It’s validating his power.
By cortone on 06.07.17 12:23pm
Sooner or later though, that driver gets shot.
Sticking with the metaphor I’ll just presume that’s Baker getting fired.
By Drunk Viking on 06.07.17 12:53pm
With regards to the millions of drivers on the road, very few get shot, but it happens
Baker’s backseat driver also signs his paycheck while he’s lapping up the rage that’s generated. I’d say Baker is more at risk when he stops inciting rage.
By cortone on 06.07.17 12:56pm
You specifically mentioned those drivers that constantly drive slowly everywhere just to anger people behind them, not just all drivers.
Definitely not millions of those. Not for long, anyway.
By Drunk Viking on 06.07.17 1:00pm
Oh sure, a much higher percentage of the rage inducers get shot, or shot at anyway, not trying to challenge you on that at all.
But still, not many of them are shot at compared to how many there are. Far too many people feel they have no control in life, and that’s one area that they can claim some.
By cortone on 06.07.17 2:00pm
I get that it's a metaphor
but maybe let’s cut back on the "people being shot" talk.
By Taylor Bartle on 06.08.17 8:50am
Good suggestion
I can do that.
By cortone on 06.08.17 8:50pm
Geoff is right about twitter
and how people react to things or to other people.
By gstommylee on 06.06.17 9:58pm
Just now noticed the almost teal color of the hockey jerseys
In that OVG concept art. Reminds me of the Oakland Seals jerseys, yuck.
By OlyBrandon21 on 06.06.17 11:18pm
Seals
yeah, that teal the Seals used on their last set of uniforms was bad. I like the one’s before that when Finley owned the team and used the A’s colors. Thought those were pretty sharp.
By Todd Little on 06.07.17 8:02am
Agreed.
It’ll be so exciting to be talking logos, names, and sweaters instead of acronyms, owners, and arenas. Politics and sports should never have to mix like this, and I’d never wish this upon my worst enemy.
By OlyBrandon21 on 06.07.17 8:19am
got
a lot of respect for this site and the people that come here, the arena process you guys are dealing with is… something else.
as someone who grew up during the 70s, I’d like to see the hockey team called Totems and most or even all elements of that uniform used (I love the Totems uniforms – bad ass), but some other good candidates out there, too.
By Todd Little on 06.07.17 8:33am
Gotta Stick With Metropolitans
The Metropolitans brought the Stanley Cup to the US for the first time and their name is etched upon it. I like the Totems, but I want to honor what I feel is the most significant part of our hockey history.
But hey, I’m happy to feel like we’re close enough to an NHL team to even be discussing a name.
By Journeyman223 on 06.08.17 5:18pm
I love the history aspect of that name
I have to admit, it is not appealing to me beyond that connection. But I would defer to the true hardcores of the NHL hockey fan base.
By cortone on 06.08.17 8:53pm
Promising concept for a Seattle Metropolitans uniform

I like the leggings on the unit, However, the space needle top on the S on the heritage uni is a little unsightly.
By NWEastcoaster on 06.10.17 9:42am
Re the Seals--I liked the whites skates and the contrast
with the green and yellow uniforms:) I would be cool with that for our Seattle team.
