Adding Artest has improved the Kings at both ends of the court, but predictably it has been more important on defense, given that Artest was the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year in 2003-04, his last full season. In fact, Artest has made Sacramento an elite defensive team since the trade. In that span, the Kings Defensive Rating is 103.1 points per 100 possessions. Only one team, the San Antonio Spurs (100.2) has been more stingy on a per-possession basis over the entire season.
