NBA.com is now reporting as the deal being complete.
On two levels I beleive this is a solid deal by Sam Presti. First, they recieve the two future picks from the Suns for taking on Kurt Thomas's salary. When the Lewis trade was made I questioned whether they would eventually use the exception or just let it expire, we now have our answer. We also have three assets to use in future deals. Second, Thomas gives us another veteran to help lead the younger big men we have on the roster. I think this is invaluable.
One thing to remember, we now have one of hte bigger expirering contracts in the league as a barganing chip in trades. With the exception we could take on players up to a certain dollar value but couldn't combine that with other players. Thomas' contract can be combined with other players to bring in other pieces.
