Study: Louisville Can Support NBA Franchise... So Can Seattle

Louisville has been speculated as a front runner to be an expansion partner with Seattle and this study proves that the market can support an NBA team.

The American City Business Journal released a study on Friday that Louisville does have the population and the income by local residents to support an NBA franchise.  Not shockingly Seattle is also on this list and also a bit higher up. Seattle, however, did not fair so well when it came to the NHL score.  Of course I can point out to an article that was written by a certain site about eight months ago speaking about Seattle and Louisville being on top of the list

Of course there are a few things left to be sorted out in Milwaukee, our own Environmental Impact Study and the potential of work stoppage after the NBA's collective bargaining agreement runs out.

There is always the possibility of another city jumping us in the proceedings to get both the NBA or the NHL.  Only way I see that happening is if the EIS is rejected for some reason and not because the NBA still has a vendetta against the city of Seattle and enjoy seeing our misery.  They don't, they want a team here.  Trust me on this.

The only two cities that I can see potentially passing us to get an NBA franchise is Vegas and Omaha.  Vancouver is on the outside looking in, Francesco Anquilini has apparently cooled on his desires to bring a franchise back to VBC.  Nashville does want an NBA team, but that team already resides in the state.  Virginia Beach/Norfolk could always end up doing something, I see them as a loose canon in all this.  Then according to the list St. Louis, Kansas City and others that we thought could be threats, really are not.

The table below shows you the North American markets, the higher the number the more likely they are to be able to support a franchise from a certain league.  If you're a little weirded out by how some cities have money coming out of their TPI and they don't have a pro sports team there, they do have a team from a Power 5 college conference.

I am not going to even pretend to know exactly how TPI is calculated and how sports teams consume that per market, so I'll let you work that out on your own.
