Scholarships awarded to former Sonic/Coug and Husky
The NBA Retired Players Association awarded scholarships to Kaplan University (a for-profit online university). At first I thought these were to help retired players go back to school and get their bachelors degrees, but it turns out that only one of them, Joe Smith, lacks a bachelors degree. The others are pursuing post-baccalaureate degrees or certificates. They include James Donaldson and Eldridge Recasner who both already have their bachelors degrees. The other two players are Kevin Loder from Alabama State who I scarcely remember, and Adonal Foyle who'd been an honors graduate from Colgate University, an academically elite college. So these scholarships are not so much remedial in nature but instead most are aimed at helping the former players pursue post-graduate education. They're not exactly Rhodes Scholarships but they're not academic booby prizes either (OTOH, Kaplan University isn't exactly a scholarly powerhouse.)
