Where are they now? The 2007-08 Seattle SuperSonics

The 2016-17 NBA season has come to a close, making it officially nine years since our beloved Seattle SuperSonics packed up and headed southeast.

That 2007-08 team was, for the most part, pretty forgettable. They finished the season 20-62, good for dead last in the Western Conference. The team was made up of mostly a mish-mash of veterans and guys who probably belonged in the Development League, and then there was Rookie of the Year Kevin Durant and fellow lottery pick Jeff Green. The team wasn’t built to win, it was built to shine the diamond that was KD so that he could sparkle once the team got to OKC.

Let’s take a look at the 21 players to suit up in Seattle SuperSonics’ green and gold that season and where they are now.

What's most notable is how many of them almost immediately dropped off a roster

Almost like they were stockpiled for their mediocrity or something.

Didn't we seat gelabale

Over Ronnie brewer?

No

That was Mohamed Saer Sene, who picked at #10 instead of JJ Redick, Ronnie Brewer or Rajon Rondo.

Brent Barry was my favorite Sonic!!

he is doing a GREAT Job post career in the broadcast booth on TNT, hes a natural at it, you know when they have those Players Only Nights, he did the play by play a few times, he is so good at it!!! Bones!!!

Would love Bones and KC

as the new broadcast crew

Met him in an airport randomly & had to say something to him.

I think it was, "I’m a huge fan of yours – especially your time in Seattle."

He lit up, realizing I wasn’t a psycho & said something along the lines of "it’s a shame they don’t have a team there. I love that city."

If I didn’t already dig him as a player to the fullest, I did then (and now). Go Sonics.

sorry

didnt realize this was a thread for the final year in Seattle team, but yeah Bones was my favorite Sonic and did you know that Seattle was the longest tenure he had as a player, and he always mentions Seattle being great to him, loving the city etc, he played more seasons in Seattle than with the Clippers

Okay, I'll Admit It

"I feel [Ridnour] is destined to be the coach of the Suns in the next couple of years" made me LOL.

It was like the movie "Major League" except it was real

In the movie the evil scheming owner of the Cleveland Indians deliberately stocked the team with crummy players so the Indians would lose so many games that the city would let the owner move the team. In the movie the players and the manager rallied and went to the World Series. For the real life Sonics, not so much.

Even prior to the season, when fans were looking forward to see what Kevin Durant would do, the Sonics front office talked about how they would play this exciting new player … at guard. I don’t follow college basketball very much but I was thinking WTF? They draft one of the best-looking forwards in a long time, a 6’11" player, and they’re going to play him at guard?

But sure enough, Carlesimo did have Durant play guard several times, even in the starting lineup.

Imagine a coach with a future hall of fame forward on his roster … and he played him at guard.

Either Carlesimo is the dumbest coach ever (which I doubt) or unlike the manager in "Major League" he was on board with the owner’s scheme, deliberately sabotaging the team’s chance at winning.

Maybe Latrell Sprewell was right after all.

If I remember correctly Durant-at-2 was to protect him

because he weighed like 75 pounds when he got here. They wanted to keep him from getting beat up and were willing to live with the consequences.

I was there at all but three games

that season, and while I remember the poor caliber of play, I forgot the names of more than half those guys.

Pic makes me sad. Actually hard to keep looking at it on the front page of SR.

Even for the last year for a team designed to tank. . I’d be happier than a pig in shit to watch that Sonics team or any Sonics team play today.
