Can someone post a recap for these who cannot hear?

Many thanks for helping make the podcast accessible.

Well, Jeff Bezos is asking his twitter followers for philanthropy ideas.

Hey. . . . . I’ve got an idea.

Why, oh why. .. . .can’t some of our uber wealthy pitch in.

Well, if he's got 14 billion with a capital 'B' to buy Whole Foods....

http://komonews.com/news/nation-world/amazon-to-buy-whole-foods-in-multi-billion-dollar-deal

….a cool billion to help Hansen build an arena and bring teams here shouldn’t be that hard to do…….

How about a cool billion to renovate Seattle Center as a public space and arts center?

Save it from the Seattle City Council.

DING, DING, DING -- - - We have a WINNER !!

Perfect idea.. . . .Not only save the SCC from itself, but save SLU/LQA from a traffic nightmare.

Ask Bill Gates

His foundation is literally across the street from there.

Gates Foundation: Double Parking target

if and when an NHL team is playing at the refurbished Key, particularly the Stanley Cup playoffs. Maybe the team can put an ice sheet on the roof, enclose it and use as a practice facility.

Well that's actually Amazon buying Whole Foods

Sight difference.

New caption contest!

"Well, duh, we’ve know it’s all about the site difference! Hey, you spelled ‘site’ wrong!"

"So, you’re saying you like the optics of the Whole Foods buy, or you don’t like the optics of the Whole Foods buy?"

"Bezos needs glasses? Otherwise he would have fixed the Key instead?"

Sorry, just giving you a bad time.

Fortunately, I've never made typos before, but I can imagine what it must be like.

Slight difference

That’s what I get for typing fast.

Bezos won’t own Whole Foods outright like he owns the Washington Post. Amazon shareholders will. There are many of those besides Bezos.

And yes I know you were kidding

Just had to make clarification for those who may not get it.

There's always at least one

even with the sarcasm font.

I am frequently embarrassed by my own typos on re-reads.

I love the comments at the 22 minute mark

Even if people still prefer SODO, root for an NHL partner instead of sabotaging Seattle center. Leiweke has known how to sell this thing and he has the connections in the leagues to fulfill his vision. As of now, I am assuming that we will be working with OVG moving forward. With that said, let’s hope Bonderman keeps his mouth shut.

Most importantly I’m hoping we can move the conversation to "WHERE WILL THE NHL TEAM PLAY while Seattle Center is being rebuilt? Tacoma or Everett? (both would need major improvements even to house a team on an interim basis.) How to the current plans to improve the T Dome integrate with that effort? THAT is one of the biggest obstacles toward the NHL initiating the expansion process.

If the city actually hires independent

transportation and financial analysts I wouldn’t assume anything.

Well the design commission and SDOT both said SODO was acceptable

last year and the city council STILL voted against it; ignoring the data from multiple analyses. We have learned that the city doesn’t base their decisions on logic, evidence, or facts. CD5 said it himself that Seattle center is way ahead right now and until SODO partners with NHL owners that will not change.

The arena debate is far more mainstream than

it was in May. If they don’t adequately address traffic/parking and public risk, there could be political consequences for each member. Especially Bagshaw since the people most affected are the ones that can replace her when her seat comes up.

She may not decide to run again as far as we know

There's not much they can do about traffic

The city will finagle a way to sell minute improvements in transportation as doing all that needs to be done. However, I could see post Key Arena rebuild deal at the point that the NHL is playing in the Key, that the parking problems will get so frustrating that the "whales" will demand that parking be built and the city will hop to it to prevent a potential buy out of the NHL teams lease. It will be justified as an underestimation of parking need and sold as being a minor upgrade that won’t impact the neighborhood.

I completely agree with this prediction

Nothing more to say, I think this is how transportation with LQA will work out.

An expansion team

wouldn’t need a temporary facility unless there were delays in construction.

You think they'd wait until 2022?

Isn’t that the timeline for the completion of the new OVG building? I figured the league and ownership group would want to strike while the iron is hot in terms of expansion. I guess the owners and league could wait a few years knowing privately that expansion to Seattle is coming and announce it publicly a few years down the line.

2020-21 season

Oh, that's earlier than I thought

Thanks for the info! That’s better than expected. So I guess they could announce expansion this winter and say, "Seattle gets a team in two years." That seems more reasonable.

I'm only basing it on the current time that OVG has given us

That the arena is supposed to be open 2020-2021. Of course with the NCAA tournament playing in Seattle march of 2019. That could change things push things another few months and pushing it back 2021-2022 season. We won’t know for sure when exactly until construction begins and when NHL announces what year expansion Seattle will begin.

The best scenario i see is

OVG gets EIS done by dec 2018 construct starts jan/feb 2019 team is announced summer of 2019 arena gets done in late summer or early fall and team begins playing 20-21 season but doesn’t NHL perfer a year 1/2 to 2 years?
