WHL US DIVISION – Everett Silvertips Notebook: Hart continues dominance in net; offense heating up.

The Silvertips earn six out of six points for the week.

Carter Hart continued to stay red-hot in net. Hart posted an astonishing 0.33 goals against average and 0.984 save percentage in the three wins. Overall Hart is 14-6-0-2 while also leading the league with a 1.61 GAA and 0.939 SAV%. Remi Laurencelle continued his offensive outburst with his scoring streak now reaching nine games. Laurencelle currently leads the team with twelve goals and 23 points. The Silvertips have a six game home winning streak.

Defeated Tri-City 5-0

The Silvertips returned home for a weekday matchup against US Division foe Tri-City. This was the first time Everett faced the Americans this season. From the get-go Everett applied pressure on the Tri-City defense. Carson Stadnyk would drive the puck off a Tips' faceoff win the in offensive zone and shot wide but the red hot Remi Laurencelle was there to bury the puck at 11:01. The Silvertips would strike again with less than 20 seconds left in the first period with Cole MacDonald sending a wrister past Evan Sarthou to give Everett the 2-0 lead.

Everett dominated in shots during the first period 11-4. It was not all good news for Everett: Noah Juulsen took a hard hit into the boards during the first and would not return to the game. At the 10:35 mark in the second period Everett would increase their lead thanks to Matt Fonteyne being at the right place at the right time. Patrick Bajkov would send a shot towards the net while Fonteyne was tangled up with Brandon Carlo and both would fall to the right of the net causing a deflection that put Everett up 3-0. The Silvertips continued to stay aggressive outshooting Tri-City 25-10 after two periods.

At the 9:51 mark Tristen Pfeifer and Vladislav Lukin would both be assessed two minutes each for unsportsmanlike conduct. This would lead to Tri-City pulling Sarthou. Who else but Remi Laurencelle would take an Americans turnover and shoot in the neutral zone to score an empty netter and give Everett a 4-0 lead? The Silvertips were not done yet, they would get their fifth goal when Jake Christiansen sent a wrister in front of traffic to score his second goal of the season. Carter Hart would stop 26 shots in the win and his fifth shutout of the season. Juulsen was listed with an upper body injury that was considered minor.  He was not expected to miss any further action.

Defeated Moose Jaw 5-0

Moose Jaw came into town for their only matchup against Everett Friday night. The Silvertips would receive a power play chance when Marc McNulty was assessed an instigator after dropping the gloves with Brandon Ralph. Everett would capitalize on the man advantage with Graham Millar scoring his fifth goal of the season. Everett would only allow one shot on goal during the first period while registering nine shots. At 2:15 Remi would continue his point streak taking a pass from Carson Stadnyk and burying one by the right post to give Everett a 2-0 lead. About six minutes later, Graham Millar would get his second of the night on an assist from Noah Juulsen. After two periods, Everett would have a three goal advantage, outshooting Moose Jaw 21-7. At 15:23 in the third, Everett would increase their lead to four when Tristen Pfeifer sent a wrister from the right circle into traffic. Less than a minute later, Remi Laurencelle send a wrist shot for his second goal of the night and give Everett five goals for the second straight game. Carter Hart stopped all 14 shots to pick up the win and a second straight shutout. This would be his sixth of the season.

Defeated Spokane 5-1

Everett finished their week with a US Division matchup in Spokane against the Chiefs. It only took 1:23 but an opponent was finally able to score against Carter Hart. Riley Whittingham would get a tip-in past Hart to put Spokane up 1-0. At 18:31 Connor Dewar would be given two minutes for goaltender interference which gave Spokane their first power play. With less than 20 seconds left in the period Matt Fonteyne would steal the puck from Jason Fram at the blueline which led to a breakaway shorthanded goal. After one period the game was tied 1-1 but Everett was being outshot 9-13. The Silvertips would break the 1-1 tie at 7:51 with a 3-on-1 that led to a Carson Stadnyk goal. Everett would catch the Chiefs in a line change and capitalize with Brandon Ralph scoring his first goal of the season at 14:28. A minute later Everett would build a three goal lead when Remi Laurencelle buried a Stadnyk pass. After two periods Everett would lead 4-1 while being outshot 16-17. Everett put in the final dagger at 3:28 with -- you guessed it -- Remi Laurencelle snapping a shot through for his second of the night. Carter Hart would stop 25/26 shots to pick up his 1fourth win of the season.

Monday afternoon huge news broke when a trade was announced between Everett and the Saskatoon Blades. The Silvertips acquired defenseman Brycen Martin plus conditional 2017 third and sixth round bantam draft picks in exchange for defenseman Jantzen Leslie, rights to prospect left wing Ryan Anderson, and second round pick in the 2017 bantam draft. Martin was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the third round (7fourth overall) at the 2014 NHL Draft. He is currently tied for sixth in WHL scoring among defenseman with 24 points (3G 21A). Martin should help Everett bolster their already stingy defense while adding an offensive touch.
