DISAPPOINTING - All efforts that lead to disappointment.
Sacramento will feel the cruel reality of relocating to Seattle, or stay home in California's capital city ?.
Seattle on the other hand will feel the joy of vindication, or the agony of defeat as April 19th looms.
The NBA will in fact have a tough decision in this matter ?. Or.......... Maybe not ? The NBA has always
had that image of corruption and greed. Perfect example was 2008, when the Sonics was bought by
Clay Bennett . For the first time in NBA's long history as a league , the NBA was exposed to their corruptive
ways . Fans like myself from Seattle, felt that pain and anger when the Sonics moved . I can imagine a team
moving to another city , because that's the reality of todays NBA, built a new arena that can bring massive of
profits, or we'll move to another city that would be more receptive to NBA's plan.
In the battle for the KIngs franchise, Seattle, the challenger has been working hard for the past 2 1/2 years
in purchasing land needed for the arena, negotiating with the city of Seattle, and purchasing the Kings franchise
from the Maloofs family for a record $ 525 million valuation, and a 65% of majority share of $ 341 million.
'What a lot of people don't know , or even realize is the" bigger picture" ? TV contract for the Seattle market.
Just a reminder that News Corp, sold its majority interest in direct TV to Liberty Media a few years back.
As part of this transaction , three Fox Sports RSN's including that in Seattle, were swapped over to liberty as well.
There is speculation that Liberty is seeking to unload those networks now, and that Comcast could be a serious
bidder for Root Sports Northwest . ROOT, after suffering the loss of the Sonics , the change in ownership and most
recently the lost of Pac 12 programming, is totally dependent on the Mariners.
There are rumors that Chris Hansen, is either working with Comcast in a bid for ROOT or perhaps even engaging
FOX in a return to the market . It'd make sense for the Mariners or Hansen's group to attempt to buy ROOT before
starting an RSN from scratch. With ROOT, an owner gets carriage agreement and staff already in place.
Ideally the Mariners and Hansen would work together , along with the Sounders ownership, in buying and
rebranding ROOT.
Given the disagreements that Hansen and Mariners ownership are having over the SODO arena a future
partnership a la the Astros/ Rockets is probably slim. But a robust RSN's with programming from all the local
major league franchises seemingly would have more value than the programming split over two or three
RSN's . Especially if one of those networks has to start from scratch.
In Sacramento, they are playing catch up in every aspect of planning. Sacramento is still in it's infancy
stage at this point of the game. In OT, down by 30, with 40 seconds to go in the game. Time is running out.
There is a lot more work to be done before this arena plans comes to fruition .
Those votes should go Seattle's way. No matter how you look at these plans between the two cities,
Seattle has Sacramento beat by two and a half years of hard ground work, blood sweat and tears.
The NBA though cannot be trusted ? Sonics fans lets pray that these BOG members will see the light and
vote in Seattle's favor.
Lets bring back home our beloved Supersonics.
