Seattle Arena FEIS: T-Minus 3 Weeks - The SoDo Arena Proposal

31

Time continues to march on, my friends. Yesterday saw the end of the 2014-15 NBA regular season, making it 7 full seasons without the Sonics in the league. Monday the 13th also marked the 7th anniversary of the last Sonics home game played at KeyArena.

To more current matters, today is the 3-week mark from the release of the SoDo arena proposal Final Environmental Impact Statement. As we look forward in our efforts to return the Sonics to Seattle, here's a chance to look once again at the design proposal Chris Hansen's team has put together for our beloved team's new home.

The document at the link (a large PDF download) is from September 2013 and represents the proposal at the stage of the second Downtown Design Review Board meeting. The DRB helps guide design of buildings to maintain aesthetics and relevance in the city skyline and landscape. There is a third and final meeting set to take place later this year that should lead to a finalized design of the arena.

Lest you think no work has been done on the design in 18 months, you can review the latest Master Use Permit application plan, dated February 6, 2026 and received by the Seattle Department of Planning and Development on February 24. This features a series of far more technical drawings than the design proposal.
