2013 NBA Draft Point Guard Prospects

Updated 2/24/13

Ranking the best 2013 NBA draft point guard prospects. Numbers in parethenses represents conference rank. Only ranking players that should be a lottery pick.

1. Trey Burke - University of Michigan
18.6 PPG (2nd) | 6.9 APG (1st) | 1.5 SPG (8th) | 48.9% FG% (3rd) | 39.1% 3P% (3rd) | 30.7 PER (3rd)

It’s no secret that Trey Burke is my favorite point guard in the draft. He’s seasoned, fast, pass first, but can take over games when needed. He also plays in the best conference in college basketball. He ranks top five in all major point guard categories. Knock on him is that he’s short, but he’s the same height as Chris Paul

2. Marcus Smart - Oklahoma State University
15.0 PPG (5th) | 4.3 APG (6th) | 2.9 SPG (1st) | 40.6% FG% (19th) | 30.4% 3P% (33rd) | 24.9 PER (6th)

I’m not a huge, huge fan of his. His ceiling is going to be a poor man’s Russell Westbrook. He has the potential to be a 20-8-8-3 guy, but he’s got some immaturity issues to work through. Going to need the right coach, right system and right vets to succeed.

3. Isaiah Canaan - Murray State University
21.2 PPG (5th) | 4.2 APG (8th) | 1.5 SPG (11th) | 43.2% FG% (10th) | 37.7% 3P% (6th) | 24.6 PER (6th)

Not a huge fan of score first point guards, unless they are by far the best option on their team. Canaan is that guy. He’s fast, ranks highly on the irrationally confident scale. He is trending upward in all major stats and has won some tournament games. He could be a big time player in the NBA.
