Seattle Storm add more depth to their Center position with recent signings

Seattle has re-signed Quanitra Hollingsworth and signed C Krystal Thomas to training camp contracts.

Last week the Seattle Storm added two more players to their training camp roster, both standing at 6' 5".  The team looks to add more depth to the Center position by signing former 3rd round Storm draft pick, Krystal Thomas, and re-signing backup Center Quanitra Hollingsworth.  The team is allowed to carry 15 players in training camp at one time.  The Storm are currently over that limit, but some of their core players will still be playing overseas when training camp begins.  Once those players return to the team, cuts will be made.  Training camp begins on April 24th.

Quanitra Hollingsworth played for the Storm last season and averaged 3.2 PPG and 3.6 RPG.  She pulled down a career high twelve rebounds, in the final game of the season last year, against the San Antonio Stars.  Quanitra is currently playing overseas in Turkey; where she is averaging 9.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per game for her team.  Another fun fact, is that she entered high school when she was just eleven years old and graduated with honors at the age of fifteen.  Her senior season at VCU, she averaged 14.2 PPG and 9.7 RPG.  This will be her sixth season in the WNBA; she has previously played for the Washington Mystics, New York Liberty, and Minnesota Lynx.

Krystal Thomas was drafted by the Seattle Storm with the 36th overall pick (3rd round) in the 2011 WNBA Draft.  She played in very limited minutes her first and only season with the Storm; partially due to the then head coach, Brian Agler and his stance on not playing rookies.  Thomas had a career year in 2012, playing 29 games for the Phoenix Mercury and even starting in 25 of them.  She averaged career highs in points and rebounds in 2012 with the Mercury, averaging 6.4 PPG and 8.0 RPG.  Krystal would see her playing time drastically reduced in 2013 as the Phoenix Mercury would end up with the number one overall pick and select Brittney Griner; who would immediately be inserted into the Mercury's starting lineup replacing Thomas.  She last played in the WNBA in 2014 with the Indiana Fever.  Thomas has career averages of 3.3 PPG and 4.4 RPG.  She attended Duke University in college.  She led her college team in both blocks and rebounds during her Junior and Senior seasons.

It is expected that both players will compete against each other for a backup Center position on the team.  They also may be competing with Markeisha Gatling for a spot on the final roster; depending on how many true Centers the Storm want to keep on the final roster.
