Team USA announced earlier this week that they have selected twenty five players as finalists for the 2016 Olympic Team. Sue Bird will look to add a fourth gold medal to her already impressive resume. During last season, Sue talked about wanting to play in the 2016 Olympics as it'll most likely be her final time.
Joining Sue Bird from the Storm is Rookie of the Year sensation Jewell Loyd. Loyd will be given a chance to compete for a roster spot with the 2016 USA Olympic team. Team USA and UConn Coach Geno Auriemma had some nice things to say about the promising young guard from the Storm. "I think her addition is because of some of the success she had during the summer playing in Seattle." He went on to say, "She is one of the best young players in the league and deserves to be there."
Seattle may have a third USA Olympic member on their roster as projected number one overall draft pick Breanna Stewart has also been selected to the 2016 Olympic team. The Storm own the rights to the first pick in the 2016 WNBA Draft being held in April.
The Storm also have other players playing in the Olympics for other countries. Ramu Tokashiki will play for the Japanese national team and Abby Bishop is expected to play for the Austrailian team.
