Intentional?

To me it looks intentional and should have been a Flagrant-2 and an ejection. You think Serge Ibaka is going to be fined, suspended?

Not picking on OKC or anything like that, but this was a huge turning point in the game. About 45 seconds later Ibaka got Griffin his 6th foul and he should have never been on the court.

You looking forward to a playoff matchup between OKC and LAC?

  1. Looks flagrant to me. I hope there is some other punishment coming down the line for him.

  2. Okay, what is the deal with the old news on news ticker? Kind of interesting, though.

RSS feed appears to be a little off. Was interesting reading about Rashard though.

  4. No doubt that was intentional. That was dirty. Definitely should be at least a one game suspension, I find that worse than an elbow. If Ron Artest or Metta did that they may have just thrown him out of the league.

  5. That may be the dirtiest play I’ve seen this season. He should definitely be suspended for at least a game. The Zombies have a few players who are developing bad reputations.

  6. Okay this hit me . . . Kings fans are on websites discussing in part a guy who makes his money through exercise. Hopeful Sonic fans are on websites discussing in part a man who made his billions through a company who allows people to be on websites. Kings and Sonics fans wouldn’t be able to discuss anything en masse like we do now without Seattle’s “angel” (yes, I prefer “angel” as in financial “angels” to whales).

lol.. I keep referring to KJ as Captain Ahab… for all his talk about ”whales”.

They really do seem to be getting a bit of a reputation. The 5 seconds pose by Westbrook after a big shot at the end of the game was a bit odd for a guy who has accomplished relatively little in the NBA at this point…leave those poses to guys like MJ please (or at least wait until you aren’t the second best player on your team)

Well at least he is the second best player now and not the third best.

  10. Me ? I’m looking for OKC to be out in the first round. IF they make it to the Finals - - - I’m hoping for the Heat and Ray Ray to kick their Okie butts to the tumbleweed frozen tundra.

  11. That was a cheap shot plain and simple. I wouldnt be suprised if Ibaka doesnt catch a lot of crap locally for the incident since BlakeGriffin is obviously pretty well thought of in Oklahoma.

That was a itch as move by Ibaka and I commend Griffing for keeping his composure. May be an ugly playoff series forthcoming

  12. Griffen seems to “keep his composure” a little too much IMO on numerous receiving ends of flagrant/hard fouls. He needs to get a little more mad me thinks.

  13. I’m glad Griffin kept his cool. This is basketball, not boxing or wrestling. Save your energy for the game, rather than waste it on things that can get you bounced out of the game and/or fined. Wanna get even? WIN THE GAME. Best revenge.

  14. So are we supposed to see a tab icon for the site? If so, I’m not seeing it.

Slowly finding myself get sucked back into the NBA. I was one who cut all ties from the league up until the last year or so. And most of that was rooting against OKC in the finals. Been reading up on the mock draft sites. Starting to feel old. Tim Hardaway Jr? Glenn Robinson III? And why as a Seattle fan am I deathly afraid of Cody Zeller and Alex Len? Haha.

  15. As for the playoffs, I’m rooting for whoever plays against OKC, of course! :)

  16. Doesn’t come close to Reggie Evans. That said, I think the swing was intentional, the ball shot wasn’t. I think he was chopping the arm he hand just been putting down, and misses swinging over/past the arm and bashing the man unit.

  17. Hahaha. That Reggie Evans ball grab is the all time best. Or worst. Depends how you’re looking at it.

BTW, How do we post vids or pics? Is it a general html tag?

  18. jetcitywoman2: lol.. I keep referring to KJ as Captain Ahab… for all his talk about ”whales”.

I was on the ferry the other day and saw a sign talking about whale watching. I swear KJ and Sac have forever ruined the word for me. lol.

  19. Hopefully they won’t meet in the playoffs, rather see OKC take a first round tko!

  20. Looked intentional but was probably worthy. Blake is the biggest crybaby in the game and guys are starting to put him in his place.

Well memories are short if the OKC media has anything to do with it..they are vouching for Ibaka..

Zeller could be a decent player. Len needs to stay in school. He’s not mentally ready for the jump. He constantly gets killed by 6’6″ centers and gets the yank.

  23. I think he’ll be suspended. I don’t get why so many players are so “anti-Griffin”. I really like him.

  24. BTW, It’s amazing how much Sonics stuff is on eBay these days. Just a year ago, there would only be a couple pages of results. Now everyone has realized the demand and there’s some really cool stuff out there. Good time to find some cool old stuff.

  25. I just saw this for the first time here. Absolutely intentional and deserves a 1 game suspension imo.

didnt the sonics outsell the nets last season in merchandise? hahaha. i almost bought a new payton jersey at the mall but i decided to not line bennets pockets and wait til the new or old or whatever jerseys hansen comes out with. i cant wait to see what jersey theyll wear.

I think most of the Nets not selling was that everyone knew the new Brooklyn Nets stuff was about to come out, so why bother buying the old NJ items. Either way, still pretty funny. Another interesting thing is that the NBA store has continually been selling Sonics and Charlotte Hornets items for their HOF (or whatever NBA calls it) line (they didn’t do this for the Grizzlies). Looks like the NBA was almost clairvoyant. Makes me wonder if this sale goes through if they will still sell Sacramento Kings stuff online.

I recall reading that the Charlotte Bobcats were doing a survey to see if changing their name back to Hornets would up ticket sales. I guess there’s some cost to them changing their name. Anyone heard anything lately? Charlotte Hornets is 100 times better, IMO. Those Larry Johnson/Alonzo Mourning teams were what that city fell in love with. I wonder where fans there stand today. I’m guessing it’s the older fans wanting the return of Hornets vs the young fans who identify with Bobcats.

Eh, we haven’t really done anything new. We don’t have to. We have the signed PSA. All we can do is wait, while they are the ones that needed to scramble.

  35. Apparently the Charlotte Hornets are already back?

  36. Taylor Made: http://charlotte.cbslocal.com/2013/03/03/michael-jordan-calls-reaction-to-hornets-name-change-very-mixed/

You read that article and it doesn’t sound like people are that mixed. They have fan groups in favor of bringing back the name, but none fighting to keep the current one. Maybe MJ wants to keep the name Bobcats or doesn’t want to spend the money to buy back the Hornets branding.

  37. Taylor Made: Eh, we haven’t really done anything new.We don’t have to.We have the signed PSA.All we can do is wait, while they are the ones that needed to scramble.

I didn’t read it as Sac-centric more as laying down the fact.

It also noted something interesting which Myk has pointed out from the very beginning that Burkle low-balled the Maloofs back when the team was headed to Anaheim. To make it public that you want to buy the team and then proceed to lowball the current owners that would rub any owner the wrong way.

“There remains the issue of the Maloofs’ antipathy for Burkle. They felt he made them look bad and tried to get the Kings for a distressed price in 2010 when it looked like the team was Anaheim-bound. Yes, Mastrov would technically be the person buying the team, with Burkle building the arena — an arrangement that was “not by accident,” according to a well-placed local source. There is no such animosity toward Mastrov on the Maloofs’ behalf.”

  38. What these guys fail to mention in these “Sac is back in the game!!” articles is Hansen has standing to sue the Maloofs for 30 mil plus fees and treble damages if they back out. I assume they would try to cure that by giving the 30 mil back. But if I were Hansen I would sue the shit out of the Maloofs if they caused Hansen to incur all the expenses he has incurred the last 6 weeks (since signing the agreement) in reliance on the PSA for nothing.

  39. Funny, Aaron Bruski calling Sac’s and Seattle’s ownership groups a push. Funniest thing I’ve heard in awhile.

  40. btw I really like the new format. It’s clean and easy read but adds more character and organization.

  41. Charlotte needs to go back to the Hornets…sure it would cost a lot of money to buy out the merchandise (and maybe the name but I bet that stuff could be just given back no questions asked as I don’t see Tom Benson as being that much of a curmudgeon…although he did try to move the Saints to San Antonio so who knows). The name is one of the best completely-unknown-location-specific names of any team and I would think would instantly bring credibility back to a franchise that has been the worst in all of sports (up there with Columbus BlueJackets).

  42. James:

This was my one big think that I never got about Sac people saying Stern wants Burkle…Stern has had a hardon for Balmer for years! And if Burkle is not in on the team then there really is no push at all.

  46. Big props the Zags for being #1. I’ve always respected the way their teams brand of ball. Smart fundamental hoops without the best talent. The epitomy of the underdog.

It’s nothing but gamesmanship. They are trying to play obstructionist, and make the Kings/Seattle deal seem less desireable to the NBA in the face of the Mastrov annoucement from yesterday.

  48. http://www.cbssports.com/nba/story/21805635/could-mayor-kjs-fight-for-kings-set-him-up-as-hunters-replacement

Interesting…a little long and rambling. I do wish that people would when mentioning the loan to the city as a reason that the owners can pay less at least acknowledge that the loan would at some point have to be paid back rather than say it doesn’t. Should the city forgive the loan to new owners the political shitstorm would erupt, so that is obviously not going to happen. So then this loan business really becomes would the league/owners like to see a team be out of that loan or have that debt still associated with the team. These are how people should be analyzing the “bids” not just say, “oh, well they don’t have to pay that.”

  49. Numbers Guy1984: It’s nothing but gamesmanship. They are trying to play obstructionist, and make the Kings/Seattle deal seem less desireable to the NBA in the face of the Mastrov annoucement from yesterday.

Why even appeal when you were so thoroughly embarrassed the last time? I don’t even know if the appeal would be heard since the last time it was pretty clear that the process is the environmental law. I would be pissed if I were the union members that money will be wasted on another charade.

ILWU news conference set for 10am Tuesday to announce appeal in #SeattleArena case. Mayoral candidate Pete Steinbrueck scheduled to appear.

  52. And Steinbrueck will appear! i would think at this point these appearances would actually hurt his candidacy rather than help him gain a few interests.

  53. So essentially the IWLU wants a different judge that will side with them even though the agreement is not illegal?

  54. Pointing out the Thunder as a model of how to operate an NBA franchise isn’t aiding Sac’s case either.

They don’t care about ultimately winning on appeal. The goal of the enviros and the union thugs here is simply to put up a roadblock to assist the Sacramento folks in their attempt to convince the NBA that the Seattle plan faces hurdles. The longer they can tie up our arena plan the more muddled it looks to the NBA owners.

They can’t win legally but they are using this legal proceeding to help with their ultimate goal of making sure the arena is never built.

  57. Does this mean more of the Sweaty McMullet show? Man, that guy is pure comedy gold.

I agree completely. What I am wondering is if Sacramento will face the same legal scrutiny here shortly when/if their arena moves forward.

Legal guys how long till this appeal will be heard? Or will it be a situation where the appelate court just issues a ruling on whether a case will be heard?

  60. Here’s how it’ll go down. The judge will walk in, sit down and say;

“Okay, before we get started, I just want to grant the defendant’s motion to dismiss. Boom.”

Then he drops the mic and walks out.

  61. I think its time to fight the public subsidies the port receives just to be dicks. A lot of ports are not subsidized on the west coast

  62. soundersfan84: And they expect to exceed?

Expect? Who knows. They “Hope” to succeed. Expecting and hoping are two different things.

But people keep asking “why are they appealing” and the answer is what I stated.

  66. Think the article about the Maloofs was interesting. Aldridge is acting as if the Maloofs could just change their mind at some point. Wonder if Hansen would sue them for even trying that (it’d be like selling your house and then while it was closing you got a better offer and told the first group to buzz off)

It won’t be heard until after the April 18th BOG meeting. My guess is this never sees the court-room. As above posts have noted, this is simply an attempt to muddy the water and make it look like we still have hurdles to cross. If you had any question about whether this is a valid legal argument or a legitimate appeal, notice that the idiot Peter Steinbruck will be making an appearance at this “press conference.” It’s obstructionist gamesmanship and nothing else. My guess is that the NBA sees how quickly this was tossed from court two weeks ago and sees this is not a viable threat.

I like how Elyse pointed out a couple of Bob’s points (mainly on public subsidies) don’t really hold water. Not saying it matters, but there are so many theories out here as to market size, subsidies, and small market sympathy that really mean nothing in the long run. I would think the sale of the team holds the biggest weight, even if they can deny it, mainly because of the “don’t want to hamper our future ability to sell” and how revenue sharing might look in the future. But who knows at this point.

Maybe we should keep a spreadsheet of the odds of all the reporters over the next few weeks to see how they change.

  73. SonicsDawg: If they are appealing it won’t be one judge. It’ll be a panel of judges on the Court of Appeals.

  74. soundersfan84:
So essentially the IWLU wants a different judge that will side with them even though the agreement is not illegal?

This is exactly what they’re going for.

Unrelated, I find this whole notion Aldridge puts out about the Maloofs “changing their minds” as bizarre, not to mention some of the other talk about whether or not the Maloofs will choose the Sac bid. No. They made a choice, they put it in writing and signed it. They can’t just change their minds without severe repercussions. If people think the Maloofs can’t afford to keep the team, then they really can’t afford to face the full wrath of Hansen and Ballmer’s legal team in a breach of contract case.

Thing is since NO ONE other than the Maloofs, Hansen and Co and the NBA have seen the full PSA there is no way of knowing how the loan is expected to be paid back.

Does Hanson and Co assume the loan and in that case the loan is not apart of the sale price. Is the sale of Sleep Train (Maloofs own the building) separate from the sale of the franchise?

For Sac to assume that the loan is a part of the sale(it may very well be that the loan is part of the sale, but the loan repayment is not due until the team physically moves) is a foolish assumption and they should not have submitted their bid based on that fact. They also shouldn’t assume that the relocation fee is the Maloofs responsibility which we all know it wouldn’t be.

  76. Myk:
Think the article about the Maloofs was interesting. Aldridge is acting as if the Maloofs could just change their mind at some point. Yeah, why would the Maloofs change their mind? I personally think they are tired of Sacramento sticking it to them so much and painting them as the worst villains possible (even if they may be). I also think that Burkle being involved in any part of this, even if it is just the arena, is a deal breaker as every single report seems to conclude they despise the guy. So they may just want to say to Sacramento “the hell with you.” Sounds petty, but it could be how things are right now.

  77. FWIW - Is it not ironic to anyone else that a union is suing two city counsils that are made up of mostly Democrats? Just backwards from how politics usually go. It also provides me comfort that the city counsils have fully thought this through and truely understand that no substantial impact to Port and port jobs will be felt as a result of the arena.

  78. John_S: Thing is since NO ONE other than the Maloofs, Hansen and Co and the NBA have seen the full PSA there is no way of knowing how the loan is expected to be paid back.

I do think that the loan stipulates that it needs to be paid back if the team is relocated. So the only part we don’t know is if it is in the sale price or if it is just a separate legal issue that they will deal with after the relocation/sale.

  79. im tired of sweatin this. we’re gonna get a team. if not the kings next year the pacers the next or the bobcats in a few or the hawks or whoever. its gonna happen hopefully sooner then later cause i dont wanna go through all this crap again next year or the year after. and i have a hard time believing the league would wanna put hansen and balmer through all this again. sorry to go all peter on here……

  80. Do we know if the bid Hansen has made to the Maloofs involves the 70 million debt. Could it be that Hansen will assume the debt and then pay it outside the 341 million he is paying.

Plus if things are equal in the owners’ eyes come BoG day could Hansen just offer a HUGE relocation fee since Im guessing the relocation fee would be issued that day? I mean that could sway the owners pretty good if he makes the pitch that; ” I have already made all of you a ton of money and I will give you a big fat relocation fee.”

I guess Im just trying to figure out what other cards can be played if needed. I did see that some Sacramento fans that believe if they are going to have a chance or keep their team then we will know before the BoG meeting. They believe if they get to the BoG meeting without knowing anything or hearing that the owners want the team to stay in Sacramento then they will most likely lose.

It makes me wonder if we will have an indication prior to the BoG meeting even though David Aldridge says otherwise.

    Ding ding ding!

  82. If the debt is included in the team evaluation, that means they’re actually valuing the team at $602 million.

  83. I should have a masters degree in business administration and be able to take the state bar exam after reading all these chat convo’s that have occurred here the past few months:-)

  84. Well, Aldridge writes for NBA.com, so let’s remember who his daddys are. He writes a preemptive reputation shielding piece that absolves Stern and the owners of all responsibility and guilt in this situation and places it all, instead, on the Maloofs.

Yeah, the arena, market, and ownership group and the new CBA sort of have made Seattle an almost certainty at some point. It’s not like the NFL, where the LA specter has never been serious and all teams make tons of money from the shared tv deals. I am not really sweating things, I just like analyzing this stuff.

  88. I hope this sale goes down because I may be in NYC during the draft. Would be fun to go to that if I could….random thought sorry.

  89. Read the statement; they’re just running the same argument out for a new audience?!? The MOU does not force an action without the SEPA completed, and allows alternatives once SEPA is completed. The problem is the argument Goldman wants to make is that “the MOU does force action!” He can’t legitimately do that because of the no-build option. It’s a legal non-starter. It was once. It will be the more times they trot it out

I live in NYC. We could get a little Sonics contingent.

Luckily I’ve retained Cherith Cutestory, a renowned expert in maritime law, to assist Hansen’s case with the Port.

Sweet, if I am there at that time (will be with a Blazers fan too) we should definitely represent.

I knew it was coming. I was just hoping it would come from Mr. Bananagrabber.

  94. I still believe Hansen’s leverage is at his greatest now. Either he gets a guarantee of a team through all this, or he may never get this kind of leverage again.

  95. Stern already said he’s not worried about any of the lawsuits, and that the courts wouldn’t decide this. I don’t see the ILWU’s appeal as an issue.

  96. Peter:

I agree. In the unlikely (though not impossible) scenario in which the NBA BOG rejects the sale, I doubt you will see Hansen try buying a team again. Instead, I suspect he’ll tell the NBA “hey if you guys want to expand, call me. Otherwise, I’m out.” It’s simply not worth it to be honest about trying to buy and move a team. The best way is to lie and cheat like Bennett - lulling a city into a false sense of cooperation and then moving. But Hansen is obviously not going to buy a team and keep it in a non-Seattle city.

Unfortunately, if the NBA waits too long to expand, anti-area forces could win the November elections and then scuddle the MOU… It may literally be now or never.

  97. This Charade that the NBA is going to keep the Kings in Sac is getting so annoying. These Sac fans think the have some kind of momentum now. LMAO and SMH. The BOG will be tripping over themselves to get out of the subsidized dead end in Sacramento, and move a franchise to a area that will contribute to profits, not drain them. Looking forward to Sonics basketball in 2013-14! 100% certain the Kings are goners in Sac.

I doubt Hansen is just go expansion or bust here.

  99. miltonbradley320: Don’t see how the decision being in the Maloofs hands is good for Sac

Exactly. Which is what these competing offers are asking for. Nobody wants the Maloofs anymore. Nobody on any side of anything want them anywhere near the NBA anymore.

While I tend to agree, I don’t blame the Sac fans/region fro putting up a fight. The NBA is truly to blame for letting KJ even make this such a spectacle. We probably did the same, but this is almost on overdrive. One thing that I will keep telling people is this is not garnering any sort of national media attention whatsoever other than the occasional blip on ESPN’s NBA page or NBA.com. Most people think it is a done deal over here or don’t even know what is going on. So don’t let the West Coast media bubble get you too worried.

I said early how I think the Maloofs are sick of Sacramento’s politicians and the whole scenario and are more inclined to stick it to the city when they sell. And with Burkle it is basically a non starter. I don’t actually think it is in the Maloofs hands as they have signed away the team on their end of things and willingly filed relocation paperwork.

  102. BarelyAble: Sweet, if I am there at that time (will be with a Blazers fan too) we should definitely represent.

Interesting…a little long and rambling.I do wish that people would when mentioning the loan to the city as a reason that the owners can pay less at least acknowledge that the loan would at some point have to be paid back rather than say it doesn’t.Should the city forgive the loan to new owners the political shitstorm would erupt, so that is obviously not going to happen. So then this loan business really becomes would the league/owners like to see a team be out of that loan or have that debt still associated with the team. These are how people should be analyzing the “bids” not just say, “oh, well they don’t have to pay that.”

Also, why do people keep saying the Maloofs would make more money selling to local owners because of the loan? It’s a debt that’s held by the team, not by the Maloof family (it was created two years before the Maloofs even bought the team.) I’m fairly confident that the new owners, no matter who they are, will be responsible for paying it back. In our case it would be paid by Hansen/Ballmer as part of the relocation process, Mastrov would just refinance. But it’s not part of the $341 million.

And there is only one SURE-FIRE way to get rid of them…

  105. New format looks good. Just needs comment-reply threading to really make it readable.

While Hansen may well have recourse to sue if the sale is rescinded, I personally think we should get off that talking point. Hansen isn’t likely to sue in my opinion…mostly because it’s simply not going to come to that. I see the $30m deposit not so much as a poison-pill, but as a good faith gesture by both parties. Hansen puts up a large non-refundable deposit, and by receiving it, the Maloofs assure him they aren’t inclined to entertain a bidding war for the team.

Aldridge’s article is probably inspirational to Kings fans, but it is also instructive in just how far off their arena plans are. Sacto commenters have badly misjudged, purposefully or otherwise, how far along in the process Sonics Arena is. In order for the Finance/Relocation combined committee and the BOG to turn down the Hansen-Ballmer sale, they would have to decide to turn down a very solid Seattle arena plan-one that is likely to house an NHL team as well-for a vague plan with a very dubious public funding mechanism.

It is really hard to imagine a scenario where the combined sale/relocation committee recommends against the Hansen-Ballmer sale (having Bennett head up the committee is a real advantage for Seattle, I believe). And once that recommendation is made, the BOG is equally unlikely to vote against the committee’s recommendation.

Not that any of you didn’t know this, but I just think the “Hansen could sue!!” argument is kind of silly and distracting. The league is perfectly within their rights to vote against a sale. They simply aren’t going to do so.

  106. I love all the changes to the site. One comment though is that the parsed out replies to threads make it difficult to pick up where left off. Anything I’m missing?

  107. I prefer the quote feature to the tiered reply approach of the past format because I can just keep on reading and not feel like I missed anything. I guess the only hard part is knowing how many replies down the line you are. However the site ends up, thanks for all the work on it Kevin.

  108. I also like this format of quoting instead of replying to specific posts. I’m referring to the posts on a thread being parsed into 20 at a time or whatever it is.

  109. Also the Maloofs may not be pleased that the Mastrov/Burkle tag team may be getting some sweetheart deals with neighboring land to develop. they may feel that they shouldve got that kind of offer from the city when they were negotiating an arena. It might piss them off even more that the city may be willing to give them more than just an arena to play with even if it is only selling other city held land for cheap.

  110. BarelyAble: I said early how I think the Maloofs are sick of Sacramento’s politicians and the whole scenario and are more inclined to stick it to the city when they sell. And with Burkle it is basically a non starter.I don’t actually think it is in the Maloofs hands as they have signed away the team on their end of things and willingly filed relocation paperwork.

Its not in their hands now. But if the BOG denies the sale…..it goes right back into their hands. Which would be insane for a number of reasons.

The more I think about this I tend to agree. They probably have a case. But if you really want to be part of the NBA boys club………is it really in your best interest to come in suing? Probably not.

  112. I could see a lawsuit against city of SAC/SAC investors should they reject the PSA, but I don’t think it would be a good idea to sue the league. But if I didn’t get some sort of guarantee from this, I would be out.

  113. The problem with waiting for another team should they reject PSA is I wouldn’t trust the NBA not to give the other city a “bid” to save them team the next time I had an agreement to buy a team, and the next time, the next time, etc. I would want either the sale/relo approved, iron clad expansion guarantee right now for within the next 1-2 years, or at least a binding guarantee that if I didn’t get approval to buy/move another team by a certain point in the MOU, I would get a guaranteed expansion team. Accepting anything else would be just asking to be p!$$ed on again by being used as leverage to get other cities in line for the foreseeable future and never get a team.
