Every time I post something in the latest thread, someone puts up a new one.
Since when did the site’s authors start plotting against me?
I thought this tweet was hilarious:

I’m waiting for the announce that David Stern is leaving the NBA to join the Sacramento Kings ownership group. You know it’s coming.

Not funny to me. I’m fine with making fun of certain people from Sacramento, but that’s over the line.
I’ve got a question.
What does everyone think about the possibility of a split vote scenario now that Sacramento’s bid is getting stronger by the day?
In other words, the NBA would approve the Hansen/Ballmer ownership bid which accomplishes two purposes.
1. NBA wipes hands clean of Maloofs FOREVER.
2. NBA can say that they didn’t turn down such a thorough, well-funded and altruistic bid from Seattle.
BUT, they vote down the relocation on the basis of a strong bid KJ and his whales have presented and the fact that the NBA can say the standard “we don’t like to relocate franchises” line to the whole world.
Thus, Hansen likely would immediately “sweet flip” the Sacramento Kings to the whales in exchange for a guaranteed expansion team.
Because if Hansen got an expansion team for 2015 or 2016, it would guarantee the return of the Sonics, guarantee construction of a new arena and it would enable whoever the NHL equity partner will be in this scenario to go after the Phoenix Coyotes.
I just don’t trust any legislative or economic analysis that comes in the form of a fecal burrito reference.

Oh, and in case you weren’t aware, Qualcomm is a massive entity in…….India.
I’m sorry, but an Indian owner isn’t going to make the NBA explode in that country, a star player of Indian descent would. Such a silly argument.
Unless it turns out that David Stern has been pulling the strings all along, having gotten Chris Hansen to agree to lure the Maloofs into an offer that would then cause Sacramento to try to stir up an ownership group that would inevitably lead to this Vivek guy who would pull some strings in his home country to finally land Stern a starring role in a series of Bollywood films, like he’s always dreamed.
That’s about as good as most of the behind the scenes narrative based theories out there, right?
Oladipo looked good this weekend; I think that’s where I want to go if he’s on the board.

What’s that in reference to the Indian Whale ? If not - I apologize. I would have chosen a different country. I’m not down with the racial comments

It’s not a racial thing, it’s a reference to Sarah Palin. She famously touted Alaska’s proximity to Russia as foreign policy experience, which was famously parodied by Tina Fey saying “I can see Russia from my house.” The “India from my house” comment would be suggesting that KJ touting Vivek’s ethnicity as a huge surge in the Indian market is just as vapid and empty.
Mike McCanns twitter timelines is pretty interesting.
Some points in his timeline:
- What is investment level of the Jacobs Family for the team? If minimal then it’s negligible. (I think Burkles investment in team is small. His main investment is in the arena and the free land that he and JMA will develop)
- Ranadive while nice that he has Indian roots is NOT the way for NBA to get into India. They have other ways of getting into market.
- NBA will have in house financing folks and attorneys ask tough questions about the arena deals and funding
- This can turn into a bidding war. Why would owners stop it from being one?
- Relocation fee could be sweetener, could quietly be $100 mil or more.

Mike Baker: The second that franchise isn’t able to relocate it drops in value. No sweet flip.
There will not be a split vote.
Then why would the NBA even entertain the idea of the Kings staying in Sacramento to begin with if a franchise there isn’t worth $525 million there?
Why are we even wasting a second talking about “whales” instead of how this is fate accompli?
I posted this at the end of the last thread thinking its the new one LOL
Talking with McCann it seems that Relo fee may be a big deal because Hansen could write a blank check and from what we have heard about the long period of time relo fees are paid like Bennett’s not even being paid yet. . He could say boom 150 million relo fee…and pay it up front and I doubt the owners think twice.
Too that point…..Hansen could prevent a bidding war. Instead of increasing bid to line the Maloofs pockets he increases the strength of the relocation by lining each individual owners pocket more. At some point a bidding war doesnt help franchise value because it would be seen as an overpay and wont affect franchise value anymore, IMO. BUT a HUGE RELOCATION fee could buy off the B.O.G. and prevent a bidding war (in which Hansen would have to put up money anyways). At some point the B.O.G. would see the over inflation and know it doesnt help their squads value anymore. Remember a team is only worth what someone will pay for it
if a franchise isn’t worth $525 million there?*
I think some are questioning why we are talking about it….:)

That’s a good question, but the Sacramento argument has always been about sentimentality and fairness over economics. They lose every economic argument. I don’t know why the NBA is running with this, maybe for PR, maybe there’s an amount Sac can gift in public subsidy that makes it worthwhile for the NBA to stay, I’m not sure.
The Original: Tina Fey made the statement in order to make Palin look stupid.

That is not an option not with Key arena having dates put a side for NBA.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! NO POLITICS THIS IS A SPORTS SI, ah, I’m just kidding, I don’t care.
It does not matter how many so-called “whales” are added to their pod. The NBA first has to turn down the Hansen group before their “whales” can be considered. And remember that the Hansen group paid what the team is worth to be moved to Seattle, not stay in Sacramento. It is only worth the $525M in Seattle. Maloofs and the other minority owners will get less money if the team stays in Sacramento.
trolltossin:
I think some are questioning why we are talking about it….:)
Especially when you consider that the Maloofs will NOT play nice and sell to the group of whales KJ has assembled.
They’d wait 6-12 months (at least) to see if a bidding war would develop in Sacramento to buy the Kings and keep them there, and then they’d sell the team.
Or they’d put the team in bankruptcy (if financially, they have no choice) and just leave it up to an auction process (in which case, KJ and his whales have a more fair shot to purchase the team).
But in any case, there’s no guarantee the Maloofs would get a deal in Sacramento worth anything close to what the Seattle contingent is offering, and thus, their franchise value goes down.
So why penalize Hansen indirectly just so you can spite the Maloofs?
It’d be dumb business.
The Original: It is only worth the $525M in Seattle.
exactly. Sacto fans seem to miss this core point…
If expansion was an truly an option it would be already awarded to Seattle months ago no need to purchase and flip.
They sure are good with the photoshop “there”. Wish we could post pics in here. Anyone think ballmer looks like the penguin from batman? Someone does. “waves”.
soundersfan84:
If expansion was an truly an option it would be already awarded to Seattle months ago no need to purchase and flip.
Not necessarily, because we didn’t know anything about what a Sacramento counterbid might look like months ago.
Thus, only realistic option months ago for Hansen/Ballmer/Nordstroms was to buy a failing franchise.

Michael McCann @McCannSportsLaw
@Dah_knee Yes, and those $75m relocation fees shared among NBA owners, i.e., the voters. Watch for $75m to quietly become $100m or $150m.
Mccan current twitter discussion makes an excellent point and could be a wild card for seattle. Essentially he suggested Hansen could give the NBA a blank check for relocation fee to win votes.

Could this perhaps be what Chris Daniels is talking about when he says the Hansen group still has some cards left to play?
I think the relocation fee is the poison pill. How can Sacramento convince NBA to say no to Seattle’s PSA when Hansen is willing to give out a blank check for a relocation fee.

@Kinesu, it’s in reference to Qualcomm being from India. Plays off the Sarah Palin / Russia comment. Not racist in any way….
At what point is the relocation fee actually prohibitive, though? I know the idea of Hansen throwing $150mm at the BOG sounds great and all, but that’s a huge number, one easily large enough to change the math for the Seattle group. Does it pencil out still? Maybe they’ve planned for this all along, maybe the money is going to be so lucrative here with the RSN that they can easily afford that amount, but have just been playing their cards close to their chest the whole time. But maybe not.

Well, I’m not saying that we need to worry about our guys actually running out of money, but I’m just wondering whether or not a giant relocation fee gets things to a point where it’s no longer a move they consider wise.

Who sets the relocation fee? I don’t think I have ever read who does it. I have read that it is somewhere around 10% of the purchase price. If so, that means the relocation fee could be around $50-55M.

NBA sets it to what ever it wants to be.
I think the BOG has total authority to levy whatever relocation fee they want.
Sean: Well, I’m not saying that we need to worry about our guys actually running out of money, but I’m just wondering whether or not a giant relocation fee gets things to a point where it’s no longer a move they consider wise.
It probably would depend on when they run out of motivation to get THIS deal done.
If they feel like this is the only way Seattle is getting a team, they’d pony up.
If the NBA gave them expansion without some large prohibitive costs and headaches, they’d probably take expansion.
This group’s M.O. from Day 1 has been to bring a new arena (and yes, the 2nd version of the Sonics) to Seattle as opposed to maybe using a team to build up a personal brand.
The second a team is guaranteed for Seattle, mission accomplished.
Until then, I’d imagine their checkbooks are open.
For the sake of unity and our fight against whales, can we please leave our donkeys and elephants at home?
Doesn’t matter what the total net worth the group is. A relocation fee of some significant value trumps that.

Both committees are combined though. Not so much as a barter chip but if Hansen is willing to open his pocketbook for the fee the NBA can be greedy and set it really high. NBA knows hansen is willing to pay a lot for a franchise.

soundersfan84:

It might not be, but it might. I mean we’re talking about a bunch of hypothetical situations here, but just because they are “overpaying” doesn’t mean there isn’t a limit to what they’re willing to spend. $150m is not an insignificant amount of money, even to rich guys. If we were talking about $1 billion being spent to buy a team and build an arena and now you’ve just added $100m to what they thought the high end of a relocation fee might be, it changes the math. That’s a potentially 10% increase in initial expenses, that’s a big deal. They might have numbers they’ve looked at that tell them that they are actually getting a great deal and could actually still make money if they spent a lot more, but there is absolutely a limit here.
What’s that?
Still no billionaires in the ownership group? :-)

KINGS NOTE; Hawes roots for Seattle bid
by jejones@sacbee.com (Jason Jones)
Apparently last night in Sacramento, Spencer Hawes a Seattle native who
plays for the Philadelphia 76ers we’re booed by the Sacramento fans from
the comments he made in January on tweeter.
Hawes celebratory tweets about the possible return of the NBA in Seattle in
January drew the ire of the Kings fans. They began an online campaign to
boo the center anytime he touch the ball or his name was mentioned by the
public address announcer, and he got an earful Sunday.
And he admits he “kind”of gets hypocritical and my hometown fandom comes
out more than maybe it should ” in the situation because he believes the only
way Seattle will get a team is if the city takes a franchise in the manner that OKC
took the Sonics.
Hawes thinks that the group from Seattle, this time around, their intentions have been clear from the begginning . Hawes said for better or worse you prefer it
like that.
Hawes goes on by saying that there was a pretty big check that was cashed to
secure that it goes through, referring to the $30 million payments made to the
Maloofs.
Seattle we ought be really proud of our hometown boy for standing up and representing the # 206
I guess you can take the boy out of Seattle, but……… You can’t take Seattle out of the boy.
Well done Spencer Hawes.

Folks, I didn’t mean for the Palin line to stir up a political controversy. What KJ said about Ranadive and India reminded me about that silly line Tina Fey said about Russia, nothing more. I think KJ is a very good public speaker & leader, but he got carried away with that one.
Also, the bit I wrote about Stern as the savior was totally tongue in cheek. However, I wouldn’t put it past his ego to write a script that makes him the hero as he rides off into the sunset. This is a very important chapter in his legacy. He’ll smile sideways and say something along the lines of “we didn’t want to expand the league, but the fans gave us no choice…”

Apparently last night in Sacramento,Spencer Hawes a Seattle native who
plays for the Philadelphia 76erswe’re booed by the Sacramento fans from the comments he made in January on tweeter.
Ahaha! Ahahahahah!
Tweeter? That’s the name of that thing on the Intertubes that all the cool kids use. Right? …. Right?
(Bravo, SacBee, bravo. Raising the journalism bar once more.) :-)
Sigh… pics and animated gifs and memes. So many mixed feelings about that. There is a fine line between funny/cool and stupid/childish. I hope we can keep under control unlike that other place.
Kingsguru21: …While SF has certainly a minority majority…
Did you mean to say “minority majority”? Because mad props if you did - that’s awesome! :-)
How is this a bidding war? Shouldn’t the April 18th BoG vote be whether to approve/deny Hansen purchase followed by another vote to relocate? I’m certainly not a lawyer and won’t pretend to be one. Seems as if it should be denied,at that point Sac could make its case but why present it to the league when its the Maloofs that need to be paid? Sorry if these questions have already been addressed. It just seems to be difficult to filter whats actually news and whats noise.
I just added a whale to our team guys. Albeit a beached one. lolz “waves”. HI.
It’s not all high fives elsewhere……….
I’d be concerned
I disagree with a lot of people here, I don’t think once we get past April 2nd that everything is a mere formality and we won. I personally think we’re getting a little caught up with ourselves and the fever around here [a necessary fever to (1) show we support the team (2) helps keep our safe number of city council votes and (3) quite frankly it doesn’t hurt to try and railroad this sucker like all the media in Seattle was doing early on saying “it’s a done deal” and also like how the city and the league tried to do with the Maloofs a year ago, hoping they’d stick around to start paying predevelopment and locking them in on part performance]. Obviously I could be wrong and not really saying “How Dare You” I simply just disagree and could be 100% wrong.
I still strongly believe that this comes down to what 29 owners think in the third week of April. And if it’s close I think some of the legal pitfalls can potentially be our undoing if the owners really are strongly united against expansion and/or terrified of the Microsoft lawyers.

There isn’t a bidding war. The BOG will have to first decide if the Hansen group is accepted as the purchaser of the Kings. If they vote “no”, then I would assume it goes back to square one with the Maloofs. The Sacramento group will then have to get the Maloofs to agree to a purchase price. Then it will have to return to the BOG to vote on that potential ownership group.
If the BOG votes “yes” and approves the Hansen group, then it goes to relocation which will be perfunctory as we saw in 2008.
Kings fan here, and I lost all my respect for STR. Guys there are a joke. Apparently they don’t want to face the truth about our circumstances and the slim chances we have. All I said was that time was running out…and a war went against me. What even upsets them more is the fact of who I think should be our starting pg. It’s been attack mode on me all day even from some writers off STR.
But I have a question for you people in Seattle, say the deal doesn’t happen with Hansen, what are the odds of you guys getting an expansion team vs going after another team like the Bucks?
KennewickKrunk:

I’m pretty close to you on this one. I just believe that the BoG will look at the increased value of their franchises, along with the threat of tortious interference, and ask for the dotted line to sign on. I just wish the three weeks would hurry up and finish between now and then. :-)
Sean: Sac fans must be absolutely elated to get 3 brothers who will have inherited most of their money from daddy. That’s been a proven success for them!
Whoa - - -history repeats itself.
Opts:
But I have a question for you people in Seattle, say the deal doesn’t happen with Hansen, what are the odds of you guys getting an expansion team vs going after another team like the Bucks?
Welcome! It truly sucks to be in the position you guys are in.
If the deal doesn’t happen, I expect it would probably roll in the following order:
1. Hansen re-ups the offer to the Maloofs until he finds the right figure.
2. If he gets Maloofed, other teams come into play (like the Bucks or Pacers).
…
142. Expansion. That’s a long way down the road. I’d like to think they’ll find an alternate way of finding Sonics 2.0 before then (as I suspect it’d be at least a 5yr wait for an expansion team).
Not happening, they already combined the two vote meetings into one.

Expansion is not going to happen. Not in time for the Hansen group to be involved.
They may not be around to be involved for any other team will be available for relocation, including the Bucks. The fact is if the BOG votes “no” that may be it for quite a while in regard for the NBA in Seattle.
Just Think In 48 Min we only have 9 days until April 3rd
Apparently last night in Sacramento,Spencer Hawes a Seattle native who
plays for the Philadelphia 76erswe’re booed by the Sacramento fans from
the comments he made in January on tweeter.
Hawes celebratory tweets about the possible return of the NBA in Seattle in
January drew the ire of the Kings fans. They began an online campaign to
boo the center anytime he touch the ball or his name was mentioned by the
public address announcer, and he got an earfulSunday.
And he admits he “kind”of gets hypocritical and my hometown fandom comes
out more than maybe it should ” in the situation because he believes the only
way Seattle will get a team is if the city takes a franchise in the manner that OKC
took the Sonics.
Hawes thinks that the group from Seattle, this time around, their intentions have been clear from the begginning .Hawes said for better or worse you prefer it
Maybe he’ll come home to wear the green & gold.
216 hours sounds nice

Wow would be a while for Seattle fans to expect an expansion, which I wonder why is a problem. Pacers are a great playoff team with super stars, yet share the top lowest attendances. A little surprising considering that they’re ranked 3rd in the east.
I wish we would have had a Cheerleader like KJ. I’ve got nothing but admiration for KJ and Sac’s efforts.

Yessir!! Anytime you want to corner the market in India you do it by using a place that is very diverse…when it comes to Latinos…or wait…is that tomorrow’s tweet…that Sacramento can be Mexico’s team as well?
Other fun with demographics:
Median income: SEA: 61856, SAC: 50781, SF: 72947
Persons below poverty line: SEA: 13.2%, SAC: 18.6%, SF: 12.3%
Median Property Value: SEA: $453k, SAC: $275k, SF: $767k
Total # of Businesses: SEA: 74k, SAC: 36k, SF: 105k
Retail Sales per capita: SEA: 27k, SAC: $9.5k, SF: $15.5k
Of course, all these numbers go to show why my earlier point (that Chris Hansen didn’t over pay for the team) is true…
kinsesu: I wish we would have had a Cheerleader like KJ.I’ve got nothing but admiration for KJ and Sac’s efforts.
I love the NBA…one of the few here who have followed it since the Sonics left. I’d significantly prefer the deal the Sonics got as opposed to the one that could ACTUALLY impact public services.
A lot o moving parts if we dont end up with a team. The September election could get if there isnt a team already in place. I think Hansen knows that and this is a big deal to him if he wants this done. We dont even know when a team would be made available. Plus the fact Im guessing controlling an RSN may be in play especially if he can cash in before the Mariners he could control part of that coup as well. Lots of reasons for Hansen to invest heavily right now so if it came to a bidding war type scenario or using relocation fee as a tool you may see Hansen go quite high and alot higher than the Sac “whales” would find palatable especially if they are having a hard time now which seems to be the case.

The disparity in economic indicators is staggering. Any thought that Sacramento being a one team town levels the playing field in any significant way is baseless.
and very short sighted

The biggest moving part is that if the NBA tell Hansen that he isn’t good enough to join the club now then why would he suddenly be good enough in a few months? Therefore, why would he even attempt to bid for another team.
Remember, this is not…
- Like a Larry Ellison situation where they say they’d prefer he not be sold the team.
- The NBA saying that the Sacramento ownership group is better suited for the NBA
- The NBA saying that the SAC offer is stronger
- The NBA saying that the SAC arena deal is better.
This is…
- The NBA formally denying/voiding a sale between the Maloofs and Hansen/Ballmer.
This is one reason why all the PR stunts that come out of Sacramento don’t bother me…

that Sacramento can be Mexico’s team as well?
The winner here is SF. Also pretty racist thing to say about Sacramento, considering Caucasian has the most pop. It’s like if I said Seattle has to be a white man’s team as well? since over 70% are.

I didn’t understand that post either. If you figure it out — - let me know.
- See SF at 11
- See SEA at 15
- Looking for Sacramento/Roseville…nope…not on the list.
The NBA isn’t going to deny Hansen/Ballmer because of India…lets just drop the talking point. It means nothing.
Opts: The winner here is SF. Also pretty racist thing to say about Sacramento, considering Caucasian has the most pop. It’s like if I said Seattle has to be a white man’s team as well? since over 70% are.
Yep…SF is clearly the economic winner…not sure about the racist part. Was just pointing out that if India was really mattered the league would make an effort in an area where it was much more likely to succeed…a place where there are local Asian Indian fans to help generate the support.
Regardless, the fans in India won’t have a team until they have their version of Yao Ming or Ichiro…you don’t just reverse engineer a team onto a city because a rich guy owns the team. The Mariners were never that huge in Japan until we signed Ichiro…and I would bet that after trading him following is starting to shrink

I’m still at about 80% confidence and have been for weeks so don’t really consider myself someone riding the rollercoaster, but this is the most encouraging thing I’ve read yet. Good post.
Wanted to bring this up but I don’t know if somebody else already has..?? In Sacramento’s Term Sheet doesn’t it mention that a privately financed arena wouldn’t work in Sactown? Why!? So, a publicly financed arena in a city that’s dying on a vine financially, which it’s biggest employer is the government (tax revenue) is a MORE viable option than a privately funded arena!?!? That makes no sense what-so-ever! So KJ is saying take a hike to Kehriotis’ possible “back up plan” to Sacramento’s “back up plan?!?!” I’m sorry that seems ridiculous to me. I would think a privately funded arena would be FAR better for Sacramento, being in the financial trouble it’s currently in (how many cities in Cal have filed for bankruptcy, hell what’s one more), than a publicly financed hack job that will undoubtedly put Sacramento under. I bet the citizens of California are just jumping up & down for joy, possibly knowing that their state capitol might go bankrupt from this $500 million dollars of wasteful spending, not to mention the fact that they don’t even have the $$ to fund it, because we all know Sacramento is just oh so profitable a city!! I’m sorry Sacramento, but this is ludicrous (no not the rapper “ludacris…”).
on a completely unrelated note i just bought 2 tickets to go see the blazers play the lakers april 10th. holy crap do the jack up the ticket prices for the top tier teams, crazy!
It’s gotten so ugly. Sometimes I wonder if it’s really all worth it, and how we ever got mixed up in this nasty business.
Myk:
To all the dumb people in Sacramento that keep bringing up India…the guy from India…he already owns an nba team. I’m relatively sure it doesn’t matter if the NBAs “India” team is located in Sacramento or in the much more diverse city of San Francisco…
Seriously, this India nonsense has to stop…lol
The India line if thinking with Qualcomm is like me saying that people in china and Indonesia will root for Seattle because the clothes the make at the sweat shops are sold there. That’s 1.6 billion new fans!

This was just put in there as justification for giving away the money. The private arena worked fine for 28 years. What is interesting, and fits with my idea that the council only is worried about the immediate situation, is that they add even more deep pocketed people and no one bats an eye on the term sheet. Maybe we will hear it today at the meeting. I’m not trying to say what sac should do but I can point out the oddities. Also, doesn’t saying the market is too small for a private arena acknowledge it doesn’t compare? And in regards to filling dates that has been mentioned, will acts want to go to sac when they already are going to Oakland or SF? I only say this because Baltimore gets passed over because Philly and dc even though we are basically the same size as sac (depending on what stats you look at). So expecting a ton of dates is likely unrealistic IMHO
jason.: you wont be wondering on opening night. you wont believe you ever questioned it being worth it.
Also, we don’t have to get mixed up in anything as we aren’t buying the team. We can just support our side and not get stuck in all the mud (although we all are probably guilty if that at some point)

Yeah, very Anglo-central in terms of sports. Not to say bball can’t catch on, but it would be players not owners.

Right. I had no economic point at all in that post whatsoever. I had no reason to go there yet again here. Just pointing out something that may or may not be known.
That said, as far as the demographic part, I don’t think it will help Ranadive that much to own a team in Sacramento with the local Indian population that’s here. It’s more about the overall population here that are Kings fans. The Bay has a much bigger Indian population than we do in part because of the tech jobs. But if that changes, and it may, who knows, you could see a minor shift in that population. That said, diversity is not necessarily a big deal in an economic argument.
I don’t see what Ranadive brings that makes India an accessible market to the Kings anymore than any NBA team either. But that’s me. I think Ranadive’s penchant for making things as real time as possible is where his real value lay to the NBA.
Just my opinion, but I think the Seattle move was on the NBA agenda even before Hansen went public with his plan to bring a team back to Seattle. The NBA’s encouragement of a counter-offer from Sacramento has nothing to do with keeping the Kings, everything in the offer is preliminary, non-binding, and still has many practical obstacles ahead of it, it has more to do with Sac’s viability as the location of another relocation in the next 3 to 5 years. The NBA is taking an alternative approach to expansion, exchange financially struggling teams with financially sound ownership groups, strengthening the league rather than watering-down the value with more teams. Why not just leave the Kings in Sacramento and move another team to Seattle in the next couple years? Because the NBA financially blew-it leaving the market. It has nothing to do with fan zeal, and everything to do with market value. OKC did not turn out to be as valuable a market as Bennett hoped, even with the success of the Thunder. Sac’s claim of a “single sport market” being better for the NBA than “sharing” the market with multi sports in Seattle is the exact opposite of the reality. Multi-sports benefit each other and raise the overall value of the media and merchandising market. With the Seahawk’s success, the Sounders setting attendance records, and the NHL eye-balling Seattle, the NBA does not want to be the only major sport not getting a piece of that market. The revenue-sharing plan that kicks in next year has an immediate benefit for the owners if there is a team in Seattle rather than Sacramento.

Nah this one’s better
A Royal Pain @ARoyalPain 24m
The second that franchise isn’t able to relocate it drops in value. No sweet flip.
There will not be a split vote.
J Dub @XLandSharkX 2h

Slum Dog Millionaire II with a cameo appearance by David Stern.
“look what your 14hr days at $1.50/hr buys”
- Relocation fee could be sweetener, could quietly be $100 mil or more.
oh I thought the irony was with the allusion to the Sarah Palin comment about being able to see Russia from her house or whatever crazy shaiitte she said.
Don’t forget the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars is form Pakistan. Look what doors that opened up for the NFL…
Thank you Sean, for elucidating that which I was unable to. :)
She didn’t say anything close to it, though there isa place in Alaska where Russia can be seen. Tina Fey made the statement in order to make Palin look stupid.
Yep - no split vote. Just fine French Champagne splits as the owners celebrate the just added millions to their pockets.
That’s a good question, but the Sacramento argument has always been about sentimentality and fairness over economics. They lose every economic argument. I don’t know why the NBA is running with this, maybe for PR, maybe there’s an amount Sac can gift in public subsidy that makes it worthwhile for the NBA to stay, I’m not sure.
but… Sarah Palin IS stupid.
In itself maybe, they are pretty much getting a free arena. Not much room for profit when you have sponsors like Pizza Guys and Sleep Train
It’d be dumb business.
“waves”.
Not necessarily, because we didn’t know anything about what a Sacramento counterbid might look like months ago.
Thus, only realistic option months ago for Hansen/Ballmer/Nordstroms was to buy a failing franchise.
I’m not talking about whales. My column tomorrow doesn’t talk about whales. I think people are wasting their time talking about whales.
That’s not where the competition has gone.
Sarah Palin doesn’t need Tina Fey to make he look stupid. She can do that very well all by herself lol.
Oh for heaven shakes crazy moderation
If she was playing against a box of rocks on “Jeopardy!”, I’d put my money on the box of rocks.
bleh my post went into moderation so i’ll keep it brief Mccann brought up a good point on twitter. He suggests that hansen could give a blank check to the NBA for relocation fee. So its possible that fee could go higher than 75m even into 100m to win votes.
I didn’t make the original statement for a political reason. I did it to correct what has been an ongoing misperception. However, I don’t think bashing Gov. Palin is necessary.
Could this perhaps be what Chris Daniels is talking about when he says the Hansen group still has some cards left to play?
oh… about the new… *ahem* “whale”… lol
http://www.getnetworth.com/paul-e-jacobs-net-worth/
I think the relocation fee is the poison pill. How can Sacramento convince NBA to say no to Seattle’s PSA when Hansen is willing to give out a blank check for a relocation fee.
No she’s not
@Kinesu, it’s in reference to Qualcomm being from India. Plays off the Sarah Palin / Russia comment. Not racist in any way….
LOL oh good lord.
We obv has shills here
Have
No worries - - - I get it. It’s all good. Just wanted to make sure I didn’t misconstrue. Yeah, Sarah Palin is an interesting woman. I gotta hand it to her though - - - she certainly knew how to turn her 15min of fame into millions of dollars and fame.
Now after a word from our sponsors we will return to our Basketball Soap Opera - - - - “As the Kings Turn” or is it “The Kings and the Restless.”
nice find. I see it’s death by 1000 cuts. LOL just kidding.
Is this the only “Jacob”? If so, he isn’t going to help much.
Paul E Jacobs Net Worth is101.4 $Million
Ballmer could probably crap $150 million out of his pants if he wanted to.
Guppy.
I was thinking the same thing. We finally know what the poison pill is. Well, this and the $30 mil non-refundable deposit. :)
Even if its not 150m though but he still makes a good point though. That relocation fee even if its 150m they will not get if the kings stay.
Well, I’m not saying that we need to worry about our guys actually running out of money, but I’m just wondering whether or not a giant relocation fee gets things to a point where it’s no longer a move they consider wise.
He thew out the 150m as an example.
Sorry, she isn’t a pointy headed intellectual, she she must be stupid…enough of that..back to the subject at hand….maybe Arnold S can join KJs group to get the Austrian fans
Who sets the relocation fee? I don’t think I have ever read who does it. I have read that it is somewhere around 10% of the purchase price. If so, that means the relocation fee could be around $50-55M.
Irvin Jacobs, Qualcomm
http://www.forbes.com/profile/irwin-jacobs/
NBA sets it to what ever it wants to be.
I think the BOG has total authority to levy whatever relocation fee they want.
Well, that is better for Sacramento, I guess. They are getting closer to Seattle’s group. Just need another $12-15B more.
Doesn’t matter what the total net worth the group is. A relocation fee of some significant value trumps that.
Hansen is already overpaying by a lot for a franchise i don’t see where 150m is a problem but that’s just me.
I think it’s him and a couple of his brothers, as I understand it.
Last Tuesday. Be paranoid. :)
Only if they get past the approval vote. The approval vote would likely come first. If the NBA sets the fee, there really isn’t a reason for it to be a bartering chip.
I mean Sacramento could offer 575m for team (example) and Hansen still gets the kings cause of the relocation fee.
Both committees are combined though. Not so much as a barter chip but if Hansen is willing to open his pocketbook for the fee the NBA can be greedy and set it really high. NBA knows hansen is willing to pay a lot for a franchise.
NBA has leverage here regarding fee.
So Irwin Jacobs is Paul Jacobs father. He has brothers who will join Paul? Either that or Irwin is joining in as well.
Yes, they do so it won’t be the Hansen group who will be able to just up it in order to influence the BOG.
Irwin Jacobs is a billionaire. He is worth $1.4B. #326 richest people in the US.
Thanks for introducing me to this website. I’ve spent the last 15 minutes clicking on different celebrities on the banner at the top of the page. I’m amused by some, but disgusted by most. *Sigh* Better go to sleep so I can wake up and go to my middle class job tomorrow.
What evidence is there that he is overpaying?
525m for a franchise is a lot.
Especially that franchise is being the kings.
The money is probably in a family trust for tax purposes. Irvin is 79 years old. At that age Irvin is more worried about making it to the toilet on his own than basketball.
He’s also not involved. Paul Jacobs and two of his brothers are getting involved. Irwin is their father, from what I’m reading.
This is me after a Sacramento press conference:

How I dance when I think about Chris Hansen:

When a troll thinks they make a good point and I placate them:

When I hear comments from StR or I get Twitter attacked:

Me the past couple days reading the posts:

What I think of Mr. Baker every Tuesday morning:

And finally… me three seconds after the BOG vote:

I havent seen Irvin Jacobs referenced as a whale in this Sacramento bid. I heard Paul and his brothers
And something you should all remember.
I’m now going to watch Burning Love and go to bed.
You’re welcome.
Sac fans must be absolutely elated to get 3 brothers who will have inherited most of their money from daddy. That’s been a proven success for them!
I think you just murdered the thread.
How many brothers? If they are each worth $100N, they aren’t much of a threat.
*two snaps up in a circle*
LOL!!!!
Yup, and it’s not him we’re talking about, right (only his son)?
(And yes, Burkle is a billionaire, but isn’t in the ownership group either… just looks as though from where I’m sitting right now it’s four billionaires vs. three people who are halfway there at best.. but it’s not a bidding war, right?) :-)
God, why can’t we post all the fun gifs and pics like that? It would make it so much funner on days like this when we’re “not winning” on the daily add a whale to our team game.
Burning Love is fantastic, nice taste
Soon. Next major site update.
Technically, and I say this in the nicest way, you don’t want to mess with us on diversity. You’ll lose that debate just on demographics alone. While SF has certainly a minority majority in terms of white vs everyone else, Sac is slightly better.
Sac’s demographics, SF’s demographics and Seattle’s demographics.
Apparently I left Sac’s off that. My bad.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacramento,_California#Demographics
Ahaha! Ahahahahah!
I’m pretty close to you on this one. I just believe that the BoG will look at the increased value of their franchises, along with the threat of tortious interference, and ask for the dotted line to sign on. I just wish the three weeks would hurry up and finish between now and then. :-)
Whoa - - -history repeats itself.
Go Sonics
Maybe he’ll come home to wear the green & gold.
216 hours sounds nice
Not sure that will be the end of it. I would not bet against this not continuing on in painful, agonizing days until the 19th of April.
Wow would be a while for Seattle fans to expect an expansion, which I wonder why is a problem. Pacers are a great playoff team with super stars, yet share the top lowest attendances. A little surprising considering that they’re ranked 3rd in the east.
I Googled Cheerleader and the definition said KJ
Im not sure what point you are trying to make…what are the legal pitfalls and why would the league be terrified of Microsoft lawyers…?
This is one reason why all the PR stunts that come out of Sacramento don’t bother me…
The winner here is SF. Also pretty racist thing to say about Sacramento, considering Caucasian has the most pop. It’s like if I said Seattle has to be a white man’s team as well? since over 70% are.
I didn’t understand that post either. If you figure it out — - let me know.
Last point on this Asian Indian thing:
Lets look at the top ranked Asian Indian Primary Census Statistical Areas…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_American
- See SF at 11
- See SEA at 15
- Looking for Sacramento/Roseville…nope…not on the list.
The NBA isn’t going to deny Hansen/Ballmer because of India…lets just drop the talking point. It means nothing.
THNAK YOU
Yep…SF is clearly the economic winner…not sure about the racist part.
The India line if thinking with Qualcomm is like me saying that people in china and Indonesia will root for Seattle because the clothes the make at the sweat shops are sold there. That’s 1.6 billion new fans!
you wont be wondering on opening night. you wont believe you ever questioned it being worth it.
Also, we don’t have to get mixed up in anything as we aren’t buying the team. We can just support our side and not get stuck in all the mud (although we all are probably guilty if that at some point)
I quit smoking a long time ago BUT this is funny especially since its a movie

cricket. that’s india’s game. big-time, wildly popular. . . they’re not watching their favorite sport and saying “oh, if only we had an american game to follow.” it’s all about the googlies, silly mid-ons, and sticky wickets over there. which i respect.
