Rules for this board

So we seem to be getting more conflicting opinions on this board and our recent analytics are showing about 15% of site traffic coming from Sacramento.

I want to stress that I won’t allow people to get into badgering each other. If I start to see people going back and forth trying to get people from one city or another to acknowledge their sides I will just lock it up and ask the people involved to leave for a while. Continue reading

Sports and politics

Seeing it is time for a new thread, and the fact that Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson continues to hold press conferences to grandstand his efforts, I found myself thinking about the intersection of politics and sports today.

KJ Has Another News Conference Tomorrow

According to David Bienick @kcrabienick. Topics expected to be discussed: a status report on some people who may or may not ever formally commit to being involved in the project publicly (without mentioning their actual names), followed by a request to join KJ in forming a flash mob outside league offices in NYC to perform Gangnam Style, followed by a brief respite for a Kit Kat bar, followed by KJ announcing that he will be following in the footsteps of Leon Sandcastle and putting his name into the 2013 NBA Draft.

All ribbing aside, dog and pony show time is about over.

I expect to hear an announcement of some kind out of the NBA near the end of the week regarding the sale. This isn’t based on any connections I have or things I’ve heard, second-hand or otherwise. I just don’t think the league is going to leave this unresolved going into the All-Star break and risk it being talked about the whole weekend. That’s not usually their MO. Whatever your hole cards are KJ, it’s time to play ‘em or fold ‘em.

What will the new Sonics arena be called?

Nowadays you can’t have an arena called The Kingdome or, as much as we’d probably all like it, Sonics Arena. It has to be corporate. You have to sell the naming rights to the highest bidder. Hence why we have CenturyLink Field, Barclays Center, the Boston Garden is now the TD Garden for God’s sake! Not to mention a witty nickname is always fun. Fans of the Charlotte Bobcats (yes, there are some) call the Time Warner Cable Arena “The Cable Box.” So who should buy the naming rights to the Sonics’ new home? Below are some Seattle-area companies that could potentially claim the name. along with some clever nicknames for each.
