I have a question:
If this sale will be reviewed and approved at the BOG meeting in February, and Kevin Johnson won’t be speaking to the BOG until April…..
uh what’s the problem here? That would sound like the KJ meet couldn’t change anything.
I’m wondering if the Sale is approved in February and relocation approved in April?
I think there is a meeting in febuary but both votes will be in a meeting in april
UGH that’s stupid
why make us wait 3 months
Ok, that makes more sense. I was going to say, if they vote to approve sale in February, that’d be the whole game right there, and KJ wouldn’t even have a real chance.
I mean why announce it tomorrow only to make fans wait till April for the sale approval.
mitch levy @kjrmitch
I’m guessing that Maloofs would NOT retain even a small part of the team in this reported sale. Just a guess.

$525 FOR 65% RT @WojYahooNBA Jan. 9, Maloofs were finalizing deal to sell to Seattle group. On Jan. 14th, deal points of $525M for 65%.”
HOLY! it is 65% of the team.
unless i’m over reacting. But i wonder if things changed from 525m for total value to 525m for 65% of the team.
Chris Daniels @ChrisDaniels5
I cannot confirm the #’s yet, but if it’s $525M for 65%, that’s going to be hard for Sacramento to match.
RT @jadande: NBA source says Sacramento Kings sale to Seattle group is signed & sent to league. Maloofs will retain “small piece” of team.
LOL Twinkies, noooo!

I think the ball hit the pylon before the foot went out.
I know.
Not too worried about that, I wonder what constitutes a “small piece” ? Because I’m thinking like 2% ;) lol
No way is it 525 for 65%. That is just insane. Might be case of someone running incorrect numbers and running with it
really? deal to purchase 65% of the team and what % percent are they getting from?
otto we do have steve ballmer :P is he crazy enough to do something like that.
I sure hope this is all legit! Sounds more legit than the earlier roller coaster we were all riding.

Since we wre repeating things from last thread:
Mike Baker says:

Yes, busy week of news, and speculation.
Writing a column for Tuesday will be fun.
Lucky for me I picked Tuesday’s to be the day I write a column.
That non-refundable likely in exchange for exclusive rights to negotiate. And to repeat from last thread, that’s likely why KJ is making his pitch to the BOG and not directly to the Maloofs. He’s locked out until the BOG meeting.
Yes, deals can fall apart, but, anybody that can negotiate a deal with Seattle City Council has the skills to pay the bills.
Now that tweet from the cal bay guy was true.
Peter Vescey weighs in!!!
Peter Vecsey@PeterVecsey1
Source says almost living lock Phil Jackson will become front office face of Seattle-bound Kings’ franchise. Won’t coach. Will mentor choice
Chris Daniels @ChrisDaniels5
Multiple Sources now confirming sale of #Kings-to-Seattle. Deal announcement imminent. One person tells me $525 # is overall valuation.
If they paid $525 mm for 65% of the shares, then that puts the value of the team at $807 mm if my math is correct.
If this is true then that’s going to be hard to stop, a transfer of control vs a transfer of ownership. How could the BOG stop that?
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA
The $525 million price is a “valuation” on the total franchise. For 65 percent, Seattle group would pay approximately $340 million.
Just in from Woj -
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA
The $525 million price is a “valuation” on the total franchise. For 65 percent, Seattle group would pay approximately $340 million.
I say we give him complimentary hip surgery so he can coach.
I love it!
I “think” that’s the “value” of the franchise based on the amount of money Hansen is willing to spend to control more than 40% of the franchise.
They might still be paying a giant sum if money, but the cash out is not $525 since they are not buying the entire property, just the controlling parts.
I’m extremely optimistic now! In this short amount of time this amount of info came out, and they’re claiming it’s going to be announced, which is something they haven’t said before, it sounds legit.
And Chris Daniels is very reliable.
Think about this. For the first time since Schultzy sold the Sonics to OKC, we now have a piece of paper showing ownership of an NBA franchise by a Seattle ownership group. The NBA could reject the sale, but we have SEATTLE names on the piece of paper. That is HUGE!!!
David Aldridge @daldridgetnt
Pending league approval, which will give Hansen’s group 65 percent of the team, Hansen will petition the NBA to move the Kings to Seattle.

How cow It is really happing so far let hope it goes through.
The journalists are going to spill every bean they have to not get out scooped, at least a little will be BS, so, consider the sources and see which rumors get confirmed.
About the Peter named Vescey, that’s not a surprise. Why would he coach the Knicks when he could get a part of a franchise.
The NBA would pee it’s pants to have Jackson’s mug on tv again.
If BOG approved sale in February, then for the owners to turndown the move, they would have to vote against another owner, then Hansen/Balmer, for them to disallow the move.
Its already been reported by the yahoo guy that the NBA relocation comittee will approval relocation of the Kings to Seattle
LeBron James @KingJames
So the Kings getting sold for 525M!! And the owners ain’t making no money huh? What the hell we have a lockout for. Get the hell out of here
LOL and Lebron missings Key point its only 340m for 65% of team.

One potential problem could be if Larry Ellison comes along in next 6 weeks with an insane offer and promises to keep the team in Sacramento
That shows the intelligence of a man with only a high school education.
Bleh thanks for killing the buzz mitch.
Thats what scares me…..
mitch levy @kjrmitch
Such a Larry Ellison offer/promise would likely be disingenuous b/c he has always wanted a team for San Jose not Sacramento.
NBA knows what Ellison intentions were before.
Did mitch tweet this?
Has the league heard that promise before?

If that can happen what is the point of a “signed deal”?
I wish Softy could hop on air tonight.

I’m feeling really good.
Really, all the Sac favoring news has come in the death by 1000 cuts approach with just tons and tons of unsubstantiated rumors, insinuations, insinuations, and assumptions about what could/should/might/will happen.

#Kings-to-#Seattle deal imminent. I’ll join you with the latest, and what lies ahead, on KONG 6/16 at 10 and KING5 News at 11.
Hughc5,
There is agreement between Maloofs and Hansen. NBA says no to that they are essentially telling the maloofs what to do. If the Maloofs don’t want to sell locally then there is nothing the NBA can do about it.
Tony Bizjak @TonyBizjak
I suspect Kings/Hansen spokespeople are not allowed to talk yet because of a legal non-disclosure agreement during negotiations.
HBD!
“@ChrisDaniels5: So…again I was told…and @wojyahoonba is also saying the deal would be for 65% of $525M…which amounts to $341 Million. #Kings #Seattle”
Again, if Hansen can have the cash out portion and the team “value” that high, then he controls the team, that’s good.
Separately, as a total value, not what he paid, but value, does it make sense to have a property worth that much in Sacramento vs Seattle. I don’t know where the break even or profit point really is in both markets, but you must remember this, 40% or less of the franchise can not be borrowed against in order to assure the city of Seattle its guarantee. So, of the 341, darn near $210 has to be cash and not assumed debt.
So, is KJ bringing in people that can put up that much cash? People that can ensure that the franchise is 40% debt free?
Plenty of folks can afford to buy the Kings, can they afford to keep them and improve the property?
Go Sonics!
There is only 1 offer on the table that is hansen/maloofs. I don’t see how NBA will reject that offer for some other offer that doesn’t exist. NBA doesn’t own the kings.
Ryan Lillis @Ryan_Lillis
. @KJ_MayorJohnson still has opportunity to deliver counter-pitch to #Seattle deal to #NBA board of governors - the final arbiter in this
This guy is in denial.
Dwight Jaynes @dwightjaynes
Would not expect NBA BOGs to vote against Seattle sale. Owners green light other owners on these things. Someday, they may want same thing
Yea thats denial.
He also was the one taking things out of context during Stern said during the press conference in London. Thanks again to John_S for posting a link to that press conference btw.
NBA BOG will never allow a team that mirrors the Packers in today’s day and age, which is what KJ is shooting for in an owner.
In other words, he is looking for a face only with fans buying shares of the team to come up with the total price.
Times about only news source without a story yet. LOL
This is amazing. To anyone who feels bad about SacTown losing their team , think about this. When they obtained their NBA franchise they ?stole? a franchise from Kansas City- Omaha. Four years ago Seattle lost a franchise born from expansion as circumstances never forced them to have to obtain a team through relocation. That is until now. We in the Northwest deserve a team and will do the NBA proud once again.
No prob ;-)
They’re probably trying hard to figure out how to word the story to rile up the tin foil hat wearing, anti sports nut jobs that infest their comment section.
Just look at it this way: How would you be feeling right now if you were a Sacramento fan?
Yup. EXACTLY why Clay was able to do what he did to us.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1io72-ndjY
I noticed that too. Lol.
Frank Blethen has to sober up before he approves the article.
We don’t need to paint Sacramento in a bad light to make ourselves feel better. It sucks that this is how the game is played but it is, that’s all we can say.
Jeff Brennan @jay_eee_eff_eff
@ArenaSeattle @sfeeney37 reports saying NBA needs to approve sale (doubtful they won’t w/that valuation) relocation approval is technicality
Kurt Helin @basketballtalk
I know there are holdouts in Sacramento that NBA Board of Governors (owners) are going to reject this sale. Personally I’d be shocked.
Agree, but I’m still happy for us.
So it all comes down to the BOG on this one.
Should be an interesting couple of weeks till that meeting.
Anyways, let’s just enjoy having dedicated guys like Hansen/Ballmer/Nordstrom in our corner trying to make this thing happen.
LOL, I was thinking with the way the paper has declined in quality that the 2nd in command at the Times just wheels a drunk Blethen in and then its kind of like Weekend at Bernies except at a newspaper with an extremely drunk near comatose man.
I love reading Lebron’s tweets. Looks like he also has the misconception that the 525 is the 65% of the team. Funny stuff.
LeBron James @KingJames
And from what I hear the 525M isn’t even the whole % of the team! Smh. One thing is I can’t hate on their hustle though. Crazy
LeBron James @KingJames
I do know Mayor Johnson and the city/fans of Sacramento will do whatever it takes to keep the team put. We’ll see what happens #NBAFiles
Nobody really knows what KJ’s odds of keeping the team in Sacramento are, or how much power/weight David Stern has with the NBA BOG. If this deal is blocked and/or if a Sacramento owner is allowed to counter, there won’t be precedent to justify such a move. It will simply be because the NBA wants to keep the team from relocating and strings are pulled to do just that. I think we all know that the odds of such a thing happening are far-fetched at best. However, if it does - I do think this agreement truly makes puts NBA to Seattle inevitable. The NBA has been steadfast against expansion, and that probably hasn’t changed. However, if the NBA makes a precedent altering decision to allow a Sacramento owner to override the signed agreement with Hansen, IMHO I think the only way of doing this would be to approve expansion franchise to Seattle.
Looks like the Blethen family news letter finally checked in.
http://seattletimes.com/html/sports/2020180184_kingsdealxml.html?cmpid=2727
Wow I spent the evening at my parents with my phone put away all night and look what happens! How exciting. Holding my breath until Chris tells us personally we can start celebrating.
It would be a HUGE black eye and PR nightmare for the NBA to shaft Seattle again by rejecting.
New thread is up.
So it would seem that we are now exactly where OKC ways when Clay and Howard had their press conference. The agreement has been made. The city and fans will do everything they can to try and save the team, making much noise. But in the end, money and big business wins out. I don’t think this is close to the end of the rollercoaster by any means. KJ and Sactown will for sure make a lot of noise and do all they can. And as I’ve said before, good for them. I sympathize wholeheartedly. But I also have been in their shoes before, and know just how big an uphill battle they will be fighting.
Exactly why I think the only plausible way for the NBA to overturn the signed agreement is to buck their anti-expansion policy. Don’t forget, it is also a huge black-eye and PR nightmare for the Kings to leave Sacramento as well. This whole situation puts Stern/NBA in an interesting quandary. On one hand, you have a former NBA player-turned Mayor that is fighting like hell for his city, which has been screwed by the existing owners. On the other hand you have city with a rich NBA history, large TV market, extremely wealthy owners ready to have a team back. It will be a fun saga to see how this situation plays out over the next several weeks. IMHO, we are either getting a team now, or will publicly be guaranteed a team by a specified future date. Only time will tell.
Balmer/hansen/nordstorms would be 1 less team on revenue sharing.
Larry Ellison + an arena deal in Sacramento would solve that problem as well.
Would Ellison actually keep team in Sac. We know hes been trying to buy a team and move them to San Jose.
Soundersfan - I couldn’t reply below for some reason. KJ wouldn’t be fighting to keep the team in Sacramento unless he had assurances the prospective owner would keep the team in Sacramento. IF and that is a huge IF, Larry Ellison was involved for Sacramento, he would be doing so with the promise (presumably in writing) of keeping the team in Sacramento.
Why all the football analogies..this IS a ball team after all..I have thought this for a week and a half
love that!
