Sonics fan thread

The “Kings” thread is turning into a Sonics thread.

I never want to see a Kings throwback jersey with “Sonics” on it, never. If I see one, I am likely to go off (fair warning).

About Mike Baker

Anyone know of a good bar in Fremont or Queen Anne with League Pass? Been watching Kings games at home for the past few months, now that this is becoming more of a reality would nice to be in more of a social setting

  2. Kevin Nesgoda says:

Just come over to my house. I’m putting in a bar soon. :)

  3. jenn_gp says:

Kings were making a bit of a comeback, but trail by 15 now. They were able to shrink the lead to 8.

Isiah a little excited today I hope? 111 shots so far, a little too excited I would have to say!

Senior NBA.com writer Steve Aschburner tells Seattle’s Morning News the move to Seattle may not be a done deal yet.

“If I were Seattle I would not be spiking the basketball quite yet,” said Aschburner. “I’m happy for Seattle. I think it’s likely to happen. Everything seems to be pointed in that direction. But I would not refer to the Board of Governor’s thing as slam dunk.”

“[NBA Commissioner David] Stern has already said he would give Sacramento an opportunity to match an offer,” said Aschburner.

  10. Kingdome says:

I do not want the Kings history. I want the Sonics history. All of it. And no sharing with the Okie thieves/liars.

That may be our next fight as fans. We can not allow OKC and the NBA to steal or share our Seattle history. The America’s Largest Trailer Park Thunder and Lightning Causing Prairie Fires, Flash Floods, and Soft Ball Sized Hail’s history should be treated like an expansion team.

Save Our Sonics, Sonicsgate should mobilize fans and the local media to take back what is ours. In official record books, on wikipedia, etc., the history should reflect that the Sonics history is attached to the Seattle franchise, not OKC.

In theory - two lawsuits and environmental study - don’t impact Key Arena usage. #SeattleArena

    • kinsesu says:

Yeah, that is the beauty of having the Key ready. If the frivolous lawsuits and EIS slow down new arena construction, we still have a place to play. Frankly I like the Key - — I’m sure lower Queen Anne businesses are celebrating. Like Mitch said - - - I’d bet serious $$ that we will be watching the Sonics at the Key this fall !! GO SUPES !!

Key Arena folks tell me the original hardwood and floor logos are either in MOHAI or…Oklahoma. “They took that with them.”

I’m not sure how to get a hold of Brian Coe whoever else is running the site. But I wanted to contact someone regarding a post I put on a couple places in comment sections a week ago. Here it is…

If and when this whole thing gets done and we finally get our Sonics back, I’d be very interested in running a podcast covering the team from a fan’s perspective. I have a couple years experience doing this already for ESPN’s Truehoop network. I’ve interviewed most of the major media personalities, like Sekou Smith, Kevin Pelton, David Locke, Ryan Russillo, and others. Let me know if you’re interested in working with me.

Oh man, there are going to be some juicy names out there this off season!

    • Riboflavin says:

Thank you! Time to start doing my homework again. I hardly know any of those free agent names and of the ones I do know, I’m surprised they are still playing. It’s been a long time since I followed the NBA.

  22. soundersfan84 says:

Chrisdaniels was saying that the 30m down payment may make it impossible due to legal reasons to stop this deal either by Sac and the NBA.

  23. Heezon-fire says:

C.J. Wilcox is listed as a 2nd rounder on DraftExpress. If he stays in that position, he will be a steal for whoever takes him IMHO.

  24. Heezon-fire says:

Man, I think it was just 2 years ago that Shawn Kemp was in great shape and trying to get back into the league. Wish he was still ready.

  25. rambisfan-rmcd says:

Calabro SIMULACASTS PLEASE!!!!please please please…he can finally let it lose again! No more buttoned up ESPN version.

  26. EJ says:

Interesting fact to notice. The Kings owe Cleveland a 1st round pick for an old JJ Hickson trade. It’s lottery protected this year and then the protection drops each year.

    “Cavs receive the Kings 2012 first-round pick (top 13 protected in 2013, top 12 in 2014, top 10 protected in 2015 and 2016, otherwise a 2nd round pick in 2017 (06-30-11) “

  27. EJ says:

    Other owed draft picks:

Celtics receive the Kings’ 2015 second-round pick (top 55 protected) (Sam Cassell trade 02-17-09)

Celtics receive the Kings’ 2017 second-round pick (top 55 protected) (Marquis Daniels trade 02-24-11)

Hornets receive the Kings’ 2016 second-round pick (top 55 protected) (Hilton Armstrong trade 01-11-09)

Knicks receive the Kings 2014 second-round pick via Celtics (top 55 protected) (Nate Robinson trade 02-18-10)

Raptors receive the Kings 2014 second-round pick (56-60 protected, or extinguished) (James Johnson trade 07-16-12)

  28. kinsesu says:

Mmmm, I’d like a little more info on the $30mill non-refundable deposit. We all know Hansen is one incredibly bright stud. Is there any precedent of this payment in any other buy/sell contracts ? Maybe he and his legal team know that under contract law if/when the Maloof’s accept that payment it will legally prevent the NBA & Sac from any legal recourse regardless of a matching offer. If so, another brilliant move by Hansen. Thoughts ? Any contract attorneys in the house ??

  29. James says:

Not an attorney, but they only way Hansen loses $30 million dollars to the Maloofs is if Hansen himself backs out (obviously not going to happen), or if the NBA BOG’s do not approve Hansen for relocation. We all know the only way it doesn’t get approved is if Sacramento convinces the NBA BOG’s to accept a local buyer to Sacramento. It sounds to me like Hansen would have legal recourse against Sacramento if that would happen.

    • kinsesu says:

If it’s an unprecedented payment, makes me wonder why it’s part of the agreement and payable by Feb 1. Trust me — - there’s a reason why that downpayment deadline is in there. Hansen has already proven to be a very prepared and bright clever businessman.

    • soundersfan84 says:

My impression that Maloofs are getting that 30m regardless.

  30. SonicBoom says:

Interesting side note being brought up on Sactown Royalty is that minority owners will get first right of refusal, and potentially could leap in front of the Hansen group to buy the club… hopefully (and I’m sure it’s the case), Hansen has planned for this.

  31. Gene Hunt says:

We will be on @komonews at 4/6pm! We got a sickness called SonicsFever, it’s an epidemic. Watch it!

These guys are selling gold colored t-shirts with the skyline logo and slogans like “Hansen is my Hero” and “We’re Back!”

  32. SonicBoom says:

not sure, but later postings seem to have cooled this line of thought off. Carmichael Dave has tweeted that minority owners do not have first right of refusal. Also, others believe that Hansen’s offer would likely have come after minority owners declined to step up when Maloofs were first looking for a local owner (a few weeks back).

probably just a desperate (and creative) hashing out of all opportunities still available for Sacto’s half-court heave.

  33. jenn_gp says:

Ok I just re-watched the 1996 team intros and thought about our old PA Announcer Jim Gracie. It would be great to bring him back. No one can holler “Suuuuuuuuuperrrrrrrr Sonnnnnics” quite like him!

    Anything to this?

“@REGraswich: First right means local minority owners stand in front of Seattle: if they can match Seattle offer, they will own & control team.”

  36. korboko says:

    I guess it’s officially Sacramento King’s lame duck season…

    • jenn_gp says:

I hear if the draft was today the Kings would be picking 9th. I’d imagine by the end of the season the pick will be higher.

Don’t the Kings already stink? What more can Chris do? The Maloofs did a pretty first rate job in creating several lame duck seasons for Sac.

Possible improvements to Key Arena include new wiring for HD broadcasts, lower bowl seating renovations, premium seats, and new scoreboard.

  40. Cysco says:

    My dream:

Pre-game: Key Arena goes dark. Montage video of all the old sonics teams plays showing the history and the players of the past. The video ends with the loss of the team. High emotion with the video of fans during those dark days.

Now the stadium is totally dark and a new video starts showing the events leading up to that evening. The center court lights shine down to reveal Kevin Calabro. KC addresses the crowd and introduces the ownership group. After countless tears of joy Hansen says “Now in order to introduce you to the new era of Sonics Basketball, I’ve invited a few friends to help me out.” On cue, the Presides of the Unites States start jamming out a new version of Supersonics.

As the song goes on, all the old regim players come out onto the court and each one introduces a new member of the team. The song ends with the entire stadium screaming out the chorus. SuperSonics Oh Yea!!!!

The pandaemonium subsides a bit and the PA announcer says “please rise and remove your hats as we honor america with the sining of our national anthem.” Out to center court walks Eddie Vedder who does the most amazing acoustic rendition of our national anthem ever. More tears.

The game start and at half, we’re tied.

Half-time entertainment is brought to us by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

The game ends with a thrilling last second shot. Sonics win!

    Is it opening night yet?

  41. Laporbo says:

I would really like to know about the season ticket deal. Will the “existing” Sonics season ticket holders get to continue where they left off as far as location and priority #? I worked my way down from a priority # in the 15k’s to one in the 800′s so I’d really like to still benefit from my years of loyalty.

I remember when the Key was getting rebuilt they had us come in and choose our seats. They had taken pics of the floor from each section so you could get a general idea of the view you would get. I LOVED my seats and again, would love them back :)

    • jenn_gp says:

I don’t know man. Bennett probably took all the ticket info with him to OKC to use as TP.

In all seriousness, I am also wondering about season tickets, but never had anything more than a multiple game ticket package. Probably putting the cart before the horse a bit for now. More info may come out when the NNA approves the sale.

      • Laporbo says:

Hopefully Bennett mixed up the ticket info and the trophy replica - TP wise :)

I do wonder if he left Squatch at MOHI or if he has him laid out on the floor in front of his fireplace. I know the dude in the suit is a Bennett stooge now but what of the suit?

Anyway, I know the Seattle Arena people have the season ticket list. They sent a survey back in august. Buried at the bottom it says “This survey is a one time outreach to Sonics ticket holders. ”

So they had it but was the survey the one thing they used it for before tossing it?

I spoke with Sports Law expert Michael McCann (@mccannsportslaw) today… who shed some light on that $30m Kings down payment. #NBASeattle

    Chris Daniels ‏@ChrisDaniels5
McCann says “The Kings will be moving to Seattle…I think things are in order for that to happen.” #NBASeattle (@mccannsportslaw)

    Chris Daniels ‏@ChrisDaniels5
McCann says $30m payment could open door for Hansen or Maloofs to sue if deal gets rejected… called ‘Tortious Interference’.. #NBASeattle

    Chris Daniels ‏@ChrisDaniels5
.@mccannsportslaw says payment establishes business arrangement, and “stronger nexus” between Maloofs/Hansen… #NBASeattle

    Chris Daniels ‏@ChrisDaniels5
.@mccannsportslaw: Hansen could say “if you do reject this move I’m going to want ..money back, & I’m gonna sue for it -NBA-, the Maloofs..”

    Chris Daniels ‏@ChrisDaniels5
.@mccannsportslaw says it is just “one additional claim” in unlikely event deal falls through. #NBASeattle

That should answer the question about the downpayment.

  43. courtsense says:

So, what to do about that gawdawful FutureSonics roster?

I’d say keep Cousins, Thompson, Salmons and Thomas…and blow out the rest, asap.
