Chris Hansen Announcement Coming at 5PM

Chris Hansen has an announcement that is being released at 5PM through sonicsarena.com.

We don’t have any idea what the announcement is going to be, but we’re pretty sure it’s not going to be the Seahawks trading Richard Sherman to the Jets for Darrelle Revis.

Let the wild and over imaginative speculation begin!

Update: Word coming from Carmichael Dave and Aaron Bruski is that Chris Hansen is bowing out from buying the Kings and is going to build them an arena free of charge for all the stress he has caused the city.

Update #2: Kevin Johnson has announced a press conference for 5:07PM tonight.

Update #3: The announcement is happening to keep Kevin from running an OKC-San Antonio game thread tonight.

*Updates are pure speculation by SR. They may or may not be true*

  1. I’m guessing its an online poll…..Who do you want to wear the female Squatch suit at the first Sonics game: Aaron Bruski or Dave Carmichael.

  2. “We are reducing our offer by $100 million to make Sacramento’s offer ‘fair and competitive’”.

    Sincerely,
    Chris Hansen

  3. Per Jon Humbert

    “BREAKING: Hansen’s group says a 5pm announcement on http://t.co/JkfHwPXqzo. “Just a new chapter.” #seattlearena #NBASeattle”

  4. soundersfan84:
Hmm any thought that KJ is conceding the attempts to keep the team?

If that were to happen I doubt we would first hear about it from Hansen.

  5. “Just a new chapter” - not sure if those are words from the Hansen camp or from Humbert. To me they suggest that the announcement has something to do with acquiring the Sonics history.

  6. He announced there will be an announcement. You’d only announce your going to announce news if you want people to pay attention. You’d only want people to pay attention if it’s good news. Bad news gets dumped on the friday before a three day weekend (ala Shultz lawsuit being dropped).

  7. Bike valet is free to ease traffic, ILWU and M’s have no qualms as 50% of people will utilize the new service.

  8. well “new chapter” is interesting. Maybe Longshoreman and ArenaCo, etc. reach compromise?

    BITE YOUR TONGUE!!!!

  10. Mmmm, it’s the KJ announcement @ 5:07 right after the Hansen announcement that’s the most interesting. A celebration party tonight ?

Perhaps KJ wants a team so bad he’s jumping in to the Seattle Mayor race.

  11. Hansen’s group has a gag order about the PSA with the Maloof’s. I would be shocked if this had anything to do with the PSA. I expect something with the Arena.

  12. The Phoenix Coyotes are coming to Seattle….along the MOU and all that it would be out of timeline. Im guessing even if that was happening it would be agter BoG approval of Kings coming out of the cacoon and becoming beautiful SuperSonics

  13. Oh that would be SWEET

That update was a joke. Damn internet not allowing for tone inflection.

  15. Kevin Nesgoda: That update was a joke.Damn internet not allowing for tone inflection.

It had me looking at KJ’s timeline…..I was about to FREAK OUT

  16. Maybe Hansen has bought the rights to the Mark Mastrov and has jedi mind tricked him into saying “These arent the players Im looking for…”

  17. oh, ESPN simulcasting Hansen announcement on 710 ESPN??!!! This has to be BIG NEWS.

  18. FIRST ON KING5: Chris Hansen breaks silence & asks people to sign up for “priority ticket waitlist” http://t.co/m9jp1skGa3 #NBASeattle

And the announcer announcing this announcement might possibly be

  22. Ok - I’ll bet it’s some form of settlement with Longshoreman. Although, why would he even need to settle. Why would he say anything about PSA if he’s bound & gagged ?

  23. :”..no inference should be drawn between our establishment of..Priority Ticket Waitlist & our efforts to close acquisition…of Kings”

  24. BarelyAble:
I can see the Sac fans going nuts over this. The spin will be amazing.

Yep. I don’t really blame them. The appearance of having our own ‘here we buy’ type thing going on plays well into their narrative.

  25. BarelyAble:
I can see the Sac fans going nuts over this. The spin will be amazing.

Well they pledged their own imaginary dollars already, they will say we are doing the same.

  26. Tickets. Get your tickets

  27. Season Tix Waitlist ? WOW - that’s pretty presumptuous. That’s certainly gonna piss of Sactown. Think I would have waited until the sale & reloc is approved.

  28. BarelyAble:

Anyone know what the season ticket base had eroded to by the time Clay was done with his hatchet job (saying that for anyone from Sac who reads this and thinks the Maloofs are the first, bad owners in NBA history to have submarined their fanbase)?

  29. Moose: Well they pledged their own imaginary dollars already, they will say we are doing the same.

Except theirs are real and ours are imaginary …

  30. Menace:
Burkle and Mastrov are also partners/minority owners in Hansens group!!

I think there is a love child also involved. Pics at 10p

  31. catch-22:
I guess that’s cool, but kinda underwhelming.

A ticket waitlist? Underwhelming? You know what the tickets are for, right?

  32. leBleede: A ticket waitlist?Underwhelming? You know what the tickets are for, right?

The timing of this in such a way that makes it appear we’re trying to prove something to the NBA makes it seem like we have something to prove.

    I may have to sell a kidney….. it’d be worth it, though…lol

Well, you really need to do this early. If I remember correctly I had to sign up for consideration for Sounders season tickets a year ahead of time. Don’t really remember but it was a while.

  35. No. He is arming himself with community support going into the 4/3 meeting. If he was concerned about ticking off Sacramento, he wouldn’t have bought the team in the first place.

    I love it

  37. flexnfx:
Did I mention Howard Schulz will lead the Sonics onto the Court for their debut?

Yer pushin’ it, bud…. just sayin’…. grrrrrrrrrrrr! lol

  38. I hope I can sign up for single game tickets…or at least have some way to pledge for that. Can’t really get tickets when I don’t live there, but I will definitely buy up every ticket I can when I am back in the area.

  39. Sean: The timing of this in such a way that makes it appear we’re trying to prove something to the NBA makes it seem like we have something to prove.

Or something that is necessary if we do get the kings. Like getting dates at key arena

  40. Aaron Bruski ‏@aaronbruski
Source adds “the heat must be on Seattle” because it’s counter-intuitive to aggressively try to poach a team publicly.

Yes Aaron. That Sacramento offer is really putting the pressure on by offering $100 million less.

  41. To me this means all those arguments about Seattle fans not caring about the SuperSonics enough are something Hansen wants to have addressed before his presentation on April 3. It will also help him with the corporate sponsorships, etc.

Ironic that we have to prove our love for the SuperSonics to the NBA — a lot of misinformation out there about why they left, even after Sonicsgate.

Who cares though??? I AM GOING TO BE ON THE WAITING LIST FOR THE SONICS!!!

My God…this guy…Does he just say “source” when he cites his opinions?

  43. “The Priority Ticket Waitlist will go live here at SonicsArena.com on March 14 at 10 am SST (Sonics-Saving Time!). You will also be able to go to the list directly here. Requests will be taken in sequential order for each ticket type.”

  44. BarelyAble: My God…this guy…Does he just say “source” when he cites his opinions?

For Bruski, ”sources” may or may not include CMD, the voices in his head, or even Miss Cleo and her Psychic Friends.

  45. The best part is this will be compared to Here We Buy, when in fact this is a sign up to actually purchase tickets when they are available. Sac fans can already buy damned season tickets. I would point that out if people say anything about this.

Sorry - - still don’t agree. If we need to prove fan support to the NBA - I don’t see that as a good thing. It will fuel SacTown any efforts they have left. I would have waited.

Well Chris is flat out saying that he “really needs our support” and that we’re demonstrating to the NBA our fan support on the home stretch. Let’s not pretend this isn’t a PR move similar to Here We Buy whether or not it serves a practical purpose down the line.

  48. When they contact us in May, they’ll walk through the different level of tickets available — so the waiting list isn’t season ticket holders. They’ll probably have packages like the Mariners.

So psyched!!! The last sentence said it all “we’re in the home stretch people and we really need your support on this to help us carry us past the finish line!”

You got it Chris! For all you’ve done, you’ve got it!!!!

I don’t doubt it is partly a PR move, but at some point they do need to get a list up early. It serves a dual purpose for sure.

I hate this guy so much. That guy alone has caused me to go from feeling bad for Sac fans to looking forward to his misery when his beloved team is ripped from his grasp. I hate that I feel that way. But it just goes to show just how massive a douche the guy is to get me to go against my original feelings so much.

Hope they’re taking commitments for more than just season tix. I’ve always had mini-game tix, but never full season. I will gladly pay for a 10 or 150 game package tomorrow!

I do wonder the reason for this. Is this the “This is proof the team is coming!” that our fans want to believe? Or is it the Bruski/SactownRoyalty “Must be looking bad for them if they feel the need to prove their commitment” take? Who the hell knows, really. But rest assured Bruski and his followers definitely think it’s the latter.

Or people could just point out that their “Small Market, Big Heart” documentary was basically a Sonicsgate ripoff.

I would probably lean toward the former, but who knows. It may be a little of both. Doesn’t hurt to pull out their PR campaign rug from under them though. I did speculate that one of the “bullets” Mitch described could be proxy PR campaign, and this would fit the bill while also serving to get the logistics needed to get the ticket component ready.
