Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Los Angeles Lakers: Game Thread

20-34

28-30

Minnesota Timberwolves at Los Angeles Lakers -FINAL
Feb 28, 2026 1ST 2ND 3RD 4TH SCORE
Minnesota (20-34) 22 25 28 19 94
Los Angeles (28-30) 28 29 34 25 116

Television: TNT, Tip a little after 7:30 PM

Look at that Minnesota Timberwolves lineup that is featuring two former Sonics in Luke Ridnour and Mickael Gelabale. Will they have a shot at taking out the Los Angeles Lakers tonight? Probably not, but it’s good to know that both guys are still in the league, starting and doing well.

The Wolves big probably tonight is that their big, lumbering center, Nikola Pekovic is their leading scoring at a blistering 13.0 points per game. The only real reason to watch the Timberwolves is for Ricky Rubio. The man can do stuff on the court that not even LeBron James can do. Rubio passes the ball through a matrix like vortex. It gets to guys with out being touched even though four defenders should have gotten a hand on it.

Best Matchup - Gelabale vs. World Peace. MG is going to light up MWP tonight to the tune of 7 points, four rebounds and 1 assist while committing four turnovers.

Prediction: Lakers by double digits, 101-84.

  1. I love my TWolves, even though they aren’t very good. I would be very sad if they ever left Minnesota.

  2. T wolves have some real nice youngsters imo. Rubio, love, williams johnson etc. They got potential

  3. Caught tail end of the Sixers Bulls game. I really like Hawes.
Hate the Lakers, this one should be good

  4. Ridnour with back to back corner threes. I can’t recall if he ever did that once in Seattle.

    And OMG…. Ridnour vs. Blake!!!!!!

  5. Thanks Kevin for starting these game threads. I’ve been reading them while watching the games with my dad.

  6. luke will always have a special place in my heart. the 2005 season he put together was magic. such a fun year.

  7. It always amazes me that the Staples Center is home to two NBA teams and a NHL team (along with wnba, d team, and arena team at varies times). I remember reading an article last year about the weekend they had with both the clippers and lakers in the playoffs, a marathon, and kings hockey. Didn’t think the lakers were going to make any scheduling conflicts this year come playoff time, but they seem to be playing well enough recently to make a run at a 8 or 7 seed.

  8. hmmm, posts getting stuck in moderation. apparently luke ridnours name is worse than out right profanity.

  9. Unfortunately I am 2 hours ahead so Its around 10:30 here and I have to her up early for work :( this twolves Team is quite good uf they can manage to stay healthy

The auto correct on My phone is annoying

  11. Outside of Rubio is the a guy that can do a pin point behind the back pass to a shooter for a corner three?

That’s a nice list of college players. I loved watching DJ Strawberry playing D. Lonny Baxter he was a load!

  17. Kenny is a fool, Shaq makes the point on Rubio.
If you are a big man, you want those pinpoint passes right where you want the ball over playing with a pg that burns the clock looking for their shot.

What Kenny isn’t getting is the Rubio is giving up the ball to players in better positions to score.

  18. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba-sacramento-has-shot-to-keep-kings-after-putting-together-bid-to-challenge-seattle-group-042956900.html

“Mastrov and the local investors’ bid is “slightly lower,” than the $341 million that the Chris Hansen-Steve Ballmer group has agreed to pay for the available 65 percent of the Kings, a high-level source involved in the talks told Yahoo! Sports on Thursday night. ”

So they aren’t going to bid more than Hansen’s amount.

“Nevertheless, Johnson was adamant on Thursday night that Sacramento has a plan in place to derail the franchise’s move. “

Well Kevin it was 26….I think we did pretty good to not mention the whales til post 26

Rubio is the exact type of point guard you want on your team.

Ha! I love how @ArenaSeattle arbitrary relocation meter dropped from 83.4% to 72.3% after KJ’s announcement today. Get nervous, Seattle!

That twitter account has annoyed me every step of the way. From tricking people into thinking it was Hansen, to it’s pointless daily relocation meter. And now this. Ridiculous.

DJ was such a Gary type of player. Nothing but hard work and hustle.

Just got some interesting background info on the Sacramento attempt to save the Kings. Will share tomorrow morning on the show.

What’s more ridcilous is that he’s not looking into their bid itself. There is no momentum swing.

  25. Only way there is somewhat of a change of momentum if burkle was involved in the attempt to buy the kings.

  26. Gene Hunt:
Is there any chance to get Rubio for the new Sonics?

HA! I would be very sad if Rubio ever left the Wolves
